Sup guys. I need a bit of advice.

I just installed a new set of speakers in the car, but the bass is causing the rear view mirror to rattle the front windshield like mad. I'm wondering if anyone knows a good easy way to stop the rattle, or am I just going to have go kiwi ingenuity on it's arse :)

you need to change the resonant frequency of the mirror some how.

even just adding a little weight to the mirror wil change this. i am not saying it will stop it vibrating but it will change the point at which it vibrates. you will have to add and potential remove weight to find a point you are happy with.

I stopped mine rattling by taking it off the glass and Araldite-ing the heck out of the inside. Was a bitch to get back on the windshield but it doesnt rattle now unless I'm playing deep bass at full volume.

I use a solid piece of plastic tube to hold it in place, jammed against the top of the windscreen where it meets the roof lining.

Works well for the last 3 years.

I, being Australian, went for the simpler "bush mechanics" fix for the issue....

The rattle is caused from where the base of the mirror attaches to the windscreen mount. If you can stop plastic hitting on plastic, you'll be right :)

Mine has 10 pieces of torn up cigarette packet jammed into the gap between the base and the mount, and it works WONDERS!

Now i just have to stop the moonroof, roof, rear bar, front bar and windows rattling.

*sigh

I just came on to post the same exact thing.

2 x 12s hit hard and it's the only rattle I haven't gotten rid of yet...
