Hello!

I purchased a 2000 'W' 2.5 V6 Sport saloon today with 49,000 and can't wait to pick it up in a week or so! The only thing I'm concerned with is that is due for a service (48k I think) and was wondering if anyone had an idea of what's involved and how much I'm looking at? Also does the V6 use cam belts or chains?

Thanks in advance...

First one as a freebie! 54k is about £500-600. :noshake: Cam belt, platinum plugs etc.

Servicing is due every 9k, so depends on if it had its 45. I'm assuming we're talking miles?

Welcome to the club, and don't forget to join....!

Thanks, it was last serviced at 39,000 (for its 36k in the book). so is overdue for its 45k. Any idea what that costs? I could do without shelling out £600 straight away  ! Cheers.

I never did that one on my V6. Guessing £250ish.

Hi,

If it hasn't already had the cambelt done then you could be looking at a bob or two...more like £550.

Once it is done the costs come down for each 9K service, about £250-300 depending on who you get it serviced with. Many on this site will tell you that it is worth changing the oil every 4,500 miles and I happen to be amongst them. I have found that that V6 can use quite a bit of oil but it very much depends on your individual motor as some use less than others. Changing the oil also reduces the chance of the annoying tapping that you will learn to loathe.

The V6 is a VERY reliable motor in my experience but it is still worth getting (or if it is the case) keeping the warranty in date by getting the car serviced at a Mitsi approved garage as some of the parts are 'king expensive.

Any matters concerning the Galant please feel free to tap the extensive knoeldge that exists on this site. By the way, if you want part numbers or polishing tips ask Keiran!!!!

Hi Phil, shop around for servicing I would, are there any jap specialists near you? Main dealers charge top prices, but you should be able to get the cambelt done for 2- 300 quid if you look hard enough.

Regards
Nick

Thanks for all the help and advice, much appreciated. I have spoken to the mechanic I have used for years (BMW specialist) and with him I'm looking at £250 all in for the 54k which is a relief :D. I would like to stick with a approved dealer but virtually allmy dosh has gone on buying the car :(. Can't wait to pick her up :-b :-b

Gutted ! Sale as has fallen through, HPI check, showed the car had had 5 owners in 3 years :evil2: , DVLA confirmed that was correct! V5 looks like it was an old one for the car, listed 3 owners! Garage were very apologetic, gave me a refund for my deposit. Going to look at virtually the same car tomorrow privately with 46k on, so hopefully this will turn out to be the one :-b :-D !!!!

Not sure if the garage are still going to be selling the car, it also has a digit missing off the end of the VIN number on the V5, so a bit dodgy to say the least. Mitsubishi have confirmed though that the vin on the car is correct and does match the reg, it must have been recorded incorrectly by the DVLA.
Car was for sale in Camberley Surrey, easily found on autotrader website, advertised as 2.5 v6 sport, 43k, metallic blue, £7000. :scared1:

Looks stunning!

And the 'V6' badge in the lower front grille is an excellent touch! I may have to note that one down!
