Low or unequal tyre pressure can cause this. And welcome to the club.

/Welcome

Tyre pressure is usually the culprit! Start there.

Possibility of four-wheel alignment being slightly out or a binding rear brake caliper perhaps worth a look?

I see your on 8.5" wheels! just check that the top of the tyre is not fouling on top suspension arm on the inside edge.. This can happen if the wrong offset is used..

Thread tidied up!

And I notice you said the tyres are 225/45/18 - isn't that profile a little high? I think it they should be 225/40/18, to get as close to the original rolling radius as possible?

hi i miss typed the size they are 225/40/18 i have ordered some 225/30/18 to see how they fit, they dont rub ive got about15mm clearence from rim and rtyre from the arm

Yup, 225/40R18 work for me.

225/30/18 are just wrong for the car.

you speed will be 6.3% too fast when you see 60mph on your speedo you will be doing 56.2 mph.

just remember this, i supose it is better than giing the other way an maving the speedo read low. you would have to go to a 285/30/18 to get the correct rolling radius. but they will not fit under the arches they will rub.

you will have a very harsh ride as well with a 225/30/18 the side wall will be tiny and cirbing the alloys will be much more likely.

225/40/18 is the right size for the reasons Dave said above.

The AYC light problem won't be the fault of the tyre size anyway unless the tyre place gave you a worn tyre or inflated them differently.

thanks fellas
i took the old girl to mitsubishi for a look they say i have a dodgy sensor and my tracking is well off so having both sorted next week, also my rims are the max width for the car and this affects the rolling diamiter they suggested i change rims to a 8" wide for a correct fit.....
many thanks again

The width of the rims will not affect the rolling diameter that much, if anything it will slightly reduce it and bring it back closer to stock. Heck I'm running 9.5" wheels :D

9.5 0n a 18" rim????
how do you manage to clear the suspension arms??
is yours a 1997 type-s??

bradc

The wheels are actually 17x9.5", but that isn't the point. The point is that you can run anywhere from 6" wide to about 9.5" wide wheels on a VR-4 and still keep close to the stock rolling radius, even going anywhere from 16" to 20" tyres.

What offset you running Brad ?

bradc

35mm. There is approx 5mm clearance on the inside, but no clearance at all on the outside, infact it used to rub a bit until I got the guards rolled.

wow bet the car holds the road like a supercharged tram........
just been out this morning for a blast no flickerin light but iv started to to get a slight whine when booting right hand bends could this be the ayc pump????(i hope not.....credit crunch and all that)...

Possibly wheel bearing or AYC, perhaps. Most likely would be that the AYC fluid needs changing. As the fluid breaks down, it can start to sound like you have a wailing banshee tagging along on the underside!

bradc

Most likely that the fluid is old like Nev said.
