on a Legnum?

I've searched the Articles and Resource Library but the Suspension section appears to be empty!

I have some Monroe Reflex on order which I plan to fit this coming weekend. I am told it's not a difficult task but it certainly help if I knew what I was doing :)

The closest thing I can find in the articles is "Changing the front suspension". Should I follow that?

Thanks :D

Have you just ordered replacement shocks? I.e. are you reusing the springs? If so, you'll need a spring compressor to get the springs off the old shocks and onto the new ones.

Hi Ryan ........

The following two links are to my copies of the PDF files for front and rear suspension. They may give you a few pointers on how to do the job.

Yeah I have ordered them... damnit I hadn't thought about that. I'm sure a couple of lads could act as spring compressors?

Carsten knows what he's doing but he's busy this weekend so was looking to see if there was a DIY way.

You can get a set of spring compressors from repco etc for about $50. If that..

They're really easy to use, they just take ages. Allow for longer than you're expecting.

Ahh crap.. do you really need to a wheel alignment afterwards? Stink :( Hmmm, after looking at these diagrams it is definitely something beyond the Ingletor skill set. Plus I don't have very many tools...

I wonder if Dave (SubaruETA) has plans for this weekend? Failing that I will probably just get PitStop to install them...

if you can undo bolts you can change shocks, its not that hard. but i wouldnt use "a couple of lads" as spring compressors unless you dont like them!

im working all weekend sorry so im out

Or http://www.clubvr4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=36980

You wont need a compression tool on the rear. Well I found I dident.

Should only take an hour to do at most.

Yes you should get a wheel alignment, $40 now will save you a set of tires in a few months.

Hahah - I know of nowhere in Auckland that will do an alignment for $40

But make sure you use spring compressors, as there is a lot of tension in those springs, mate of mine unknowingly did that and ended up firing the spring cap across the workshop almost hitting me/Grrr

Also make sure you face the spring away from you and anything you like even with spring compressors, if you get hit by it, you will get f*cked up to put it bluntly
Other than that its pretty simple

Yeah a spring under compression will go like a rocket if something goes wrong and will likely remove arms, legs.... heads.... that get in its way.

Wont remove arms but it will make a right mess of you, I once threw a mk1 golf spring, across the yard to see how far it would go, just the spring on its own....First bounce, took it across the yard, hit the raised platform for loading lorrys the second bounce cleared a length of 1500 trolleys, before lodging in the mud bank I aimed at

I heard a story from a mechanic friend about someone who had used a land rover instead of spring compressors.... It wasn't pretty.

so how are they?

Ryan

Pretty cool... the old shocks used to jarr quite badly when going over bumps or something. Felt quite stiff, bumps are nowhere near as harsh now.

The new ride seems softer which is what I'm getting used to. It requires less steering effort through corners and the car seems to be flatter if you know what I mean?

It's a welcome change certainly! There is a slight vibration from the front under heavy braking but it's not fedback through the steering wheel or pedal? Perhaps alignment? Sleep time... I'm tired too :p
