I'm looking at a particular cooler and there are 3 different options for the fittings:

- 5/16" barb
- 3/8" barb or
- 6AN fittings

What one is most appropriate to not constrict the flow for our cars? Does it make any difference? Apparently the kits come with all the hoses etc.

Well the standard ATF cooler hose is 7.6mm. The closest match is 3/8" hose - slighly larger diameter as I recall but if you use good clips you'll be fine. :)

3/8" is probably more readily available. But if the standard hose is 7.6mm wouldn't that make 5/16" (7.9mm) the best match?

Hmmm, Maybe so actually... What's 3/8" in MM then? Maybe I got that wrong?

3/8" is 9.5mm so not *too* much difference I guess. But if the metal tubes aren't barbed you would need some good clamps to avoid any trouble. I'm yet to remove mine to check. Have you done an install yourself with 3/8"?

I've just had my membership approved so am off to browse through the guides now to see if there is any more info. Good to know the standard hose size, so thanks for that.

Yes, I'm sure I used 3/8" tube. The hose ends are barbed. I did notice that the ends of the hose were a looser fit, so I swapped out the OE clips for some jubilee ones.

I just did one last week, i used 6AN so i could use nice braided hose and fittings at the cooler. I ran it in tandem with the stock cooler and found the 6AN braided hose (100-6) fitted snugly onto the gearbox and rad outlets.

Cooler from Think automotive, lines and fittings from speedflow.

I used a 300mm x 13 row cooler and about 2m of 100-6, 2 x 6AN 90 F elbows and a couple of good jubilees at the hose ends.

Cheers,

Ben.

Sounds like a good job Ben, the braided hose is something I was thinking about to stop concerns of chaffing on the radiator.

I had a look at a couple of universal kits yesterday, and they all seem to come with 3/8" hose. So with the barb this should hold on tight.
