View Full Version : Installing a Navigation System

Hey All,

Well I finally got myself the navigation system I've been promising myself, got tired of getting lost on the monthly commute through Gent and Antwerp! (always takes an hour-and-a-half longer on the way back, than on the way out)

Got my grubby little mits on a single DIN pioneer (ANH-P9R) and I have a 6 disk changer on the way to replace the VDO unit under the passenger seat.

While I have everything in pieces I'm putting in a Bluetooth car kit.

I posted a while ago asking where the speed pulse was, and have found this again;

http://www.clubvr4.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=2441&highlight=speed+pulse

I know since then a few people have had similar things installed, can anyone confirm this is the place to go to.

Then for my next dumb-ass question - how do I get to the ECU?

Be good,

A

Hurrah!

That'll be cool. CD Changer won't arrive until tomorrow, so I'll probably be doing it at the weekend anyhow.

Cheers,

here you go, but as mentioned, the wiring might be different...

for the vr4 ECU, its that white, with green striped cable, which now (for me) goes into that yellow one that is dangling down

and it lives here, im making a guide to destroying your dashboard...

Looks good.

Was the white/green bands not connected anywhere else?

It looks like it's just been taken off someplace else?

I'm gonna see if I can wheedle some information out of my dealer.

Got it all in today, all working (expcept the speed pulse of course)

Hurrah, It's done.

My car now has a better idea where it's going than I do (and a reasonable female voice)

In the end I bottled on the 'lets pull wires on the ecu' thing. My local dealer was as much use as a chocolate teapot, so I used Edworthys in Aylesbury.

An hours labour (@ £60) and we're away.

Thanks for all the help,

A

did you find out what the cable was after spending that... .. errr... extortionate amount?

Yep, the cable was already present in the loom running across the dashboard (black with a yellow stripe), it already had a tap on it. I guess for those vehicles with sat nav on the options?

So it was just a case of them running a cable to the radio aperture.

As for the amount.....

(I was gonna say something about our Northern bretheren, but thought better of it)

which sat nav system have you got and what did it cost?

I got the Pioneer ANH-P9R, with the CD Changer.

I picked up the unit on ebay (apparently new, and I think I believe it) for £300 (after some negotiation because it didn't have the leads in the box)

Quick call to Pioneer (and £30) secured the leads.

Internet company for the 6 disk changer (caraudiosecurity.com) £85

A days effort on my part (getting everything just so)

And the £60 for the Car audio place's efforts.

....the total-o-meter says

£300
£ 30
£ 85
£ 60

£475

I don't think that's too bad? :-b
