Here is the deal, dont like auto....love the leggy, so convertion it is...
Ive had a word with my friendly mechanic, and hes willing to give it a go :D
Now I know next to nothing about mechanics, and he says if I can get him a pile of parts, he'll fit em...

So what do I need (complete list) ?
And for him, roughly what order to do things (he mentioned worries about ecu being wired to the auto box)

From top of my head, and reading around, my current list of parts is :-
Clutch pedal
Brake pedal
Clutch master/slave cyclinder
Gear leaver
Gear knob
Gear gaiter
Fly wheel
Clutch
Leggy or Evo6 gearbox
Bell housing (whatever that is lol)

Im guessing there are some cables and tubes needed as well
Am I missing anything ?

You may need new gearbox mounts and possibly the transfer box output shaft.

You do have a rev counter, but I think he meant to say that you will still have the P-R-N-D lights on the dash. If it doesnt bother you then I would say you are ok with the current rev counter.

I recently converted my car to manual and still have the auto display on the dash.

Regarding the auto gears display on the clock, if you want to remove them just simply remove the clear lens off the clock and cover the PRND with a strip of
20mm insulating tape.
You'll be amazed at how well it hides it and makes it look like the original manual clock.

thx Kenneth most useful thread :D

As to the display
Im thinking of keeping the r,1,2,3,4,5 and wiring in a gear display (I know nothing about mechanics but a lot about electronics :) ) so most likly just black out the p,d,n

thx for the help guys, will keep you posted......once i find parts

you cant use a evo box,
the bell hosuing does not bolt up, and the final drive is wrong for our cars

the bell housing is part of the gearbox, so shold have it on, not an extra part as such.

you need to get a legnum/galant vr4 one.

ok scratch that, I thought i saw someone do it, but with legnum bell housing, didnt realise they were all connected :(

What about the ecu and auto ecu, safe to just remove the auto one, or do I need a manual ecu ?

The engine ecu is fine, and the auto one just needs to be binned.

Its been done though, its a case that 2 holes need to be drilled from what I can gather, and possible turbo relocation, but it has been done, if worst comes to worse, you get an adaptor plate made up.

In the VW scene you used to get adaptors made up to fit scooby engines and the fiat twincam engines onto a standard beetle gearbox, so I see no reason why we couldnt get an adaptor plate for an EVO-VR4 manual conversion

All in this thread

This is the sorta thing I am on about, ok its for a VW, but you get the jist

Brazilian Kombi Gearbox/Engine Adaptor Plate

Pictures of adaptor plates here

and the adaptor plates fit like this.

Now the only issue I could see with using an adaptor plate would be
1. mounts, the gearbox is now going to stick at least 150mm more towards the passenger side inner arch, so a hammer to adjust some metal might be needed, and some mounts might have to be relocated
2. Power, I wouldnt know how much power could be put onto that/through that, but I wouldnt think it would be a major problem, they bolt up 400bhp scooby motors with these things

Would have to do more digging on it

you would also have to wire the whaddya ma call it lights in for going backwards aswell

You should be fine just to ditch the auto trans ECU, but you will have to wire up the inhibitor on the engine ECU or it won't start.
