Eh! guys please take a look at the photos above is this a 6a13 lump, been talking to kiteman, who has a 6a13, but has a different rocker cover...
I'm talking about the cover with the oil filler cap.

The top one looks like a front rocker cover for a 6A13TT, rather than a 6A13, meaning it is covering two camshafts rather than one.

is the car to powerful for you then?

you will loose power if you remove the airbox

Yes the problem is you are pulling hot air in from under the bonnet with a non standard airbox, hot air contains less oxygen, you will probably just be better off fitting a decent panel filter to the stock box, the other way the japanese modders go for is an induction kit but retaining the first section of the standard snorkel thereby directing a supply of cold air towards it.
There is also the problem of changing the "shape" of the airflow which the car is designed to work with confusing the sensors in the intake.

so maybe a mushroom, with a ram air type system forcing cold air from outside, straight onto the filter????

Whilst heat soak is a problem - let's not overstate this: once the car is moving, the amount of cold air getting under the bonnet is massive. The hot air issue is really only a problem when the car is stationary, or moving at less than 5mph.

To get an idea of how much air we're talking about, try holding up a bit of wood about the size of the front of a car....1.5m x 1m should do it. Now try running up the road with it flat against your chest. VERY hard work as the board pushes back! LOTS of air :D

There is also the problem of changing the "shape" of the airflow which the car is designed to work with confusing the sensors in the intake.

This is very true - The MAF on these cars is a peculiar design that requires the air entering it to be a specific "shape". IF it doesn't see that air shape, it tends to misread. Some testing is going on with VR4s around how to address this.
