Think thats what you need, unless peter thomson has one?

Try to PM him

I have a pump but you can try fitting an adjustable pressure switch first as it may be the pump is just a little tired . PM MPBVr4 and he should be able to help you out. Malc can supply them for a better price and you can become a full member and still save a fortune

Yep - I reckon this'll be fixed by replacing the pressure switch which MPBVR4 supplies.

You could always get a quote from Mitsi for an AYC pump, if you fancy a chuckle...

Yes, you could buy one of those and get a free car elsewhere!

Hope you can sort it relatively easily. :)

well we hope its as simple as the pressure switch. Its been serviced by ralliart every 4000k from new by its previous owner hence the reason i bought it and its done only 83k so fingers crossed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks:thumbsup:

You have a pm.

Just one thing I noticed it is a 2000 on an X. The switches changed in about MAY 2000. When was your first registered?

Oh and welcome to the Club. Lets see some pics of the car.

Use the attachment manager in the 'advanced' post itself - it's the little paperclip.

Malc, is that when the facelifts came out ? If so then it's fine. Mine is 2001 on a Y plate and your switch fitted fine.

Facelifts have been around since 98/99 I think (Brad will put us right I'm sure)
May 2000 is when the AYC system was changed in line with the Tommi Mak EVO6. The switch changed from "normally closed" to "normally open"

Aug 98 :)

I beleive the AYC switch change coincides with the may 2000 update where they changed from the red and black fabric to the grey fabric. If you have leather then this won't help unless you can pm someone your chassis number.

You may just have to adjust the switch a small amount and you should be fine .Did you adjust it when it was originally fitted

You have a pm.

The switches are set up before I send them to switch at about 9 Bar. They can be adjusted to switch at a lower pressure by undoing the screw. 1 turn represents about 1 bar. There will become a time when the switch point is too low and the AYC pump is not delivering enough actuation pressure to the clutch pack so the AYC becomes less effective and could wear the plates.

As I've said before the switch only extends the life of the pump - it will need changing at some time in the future. My estimate is a 2-3 year extension. Roger Rally has done loads of tests now. He might have a better idea.

just tried to upload some pictures of the car using cvr4 uploader but it keeps saying problem contact administrator????????

Hmm ... another member has reported this problem

Can you please send me a PM with the exact error message?
I am concerned this is a more widespread problem ... thanks.

You could try to see what pressure the pump puts out.
Good pump shoots up to 20 bar, pressure switch normally cuts it off once it gets up to 16 bar, and then kicks back in if pressure drops down to 11 bar in use.
10 bar or below will never squeeze the plates hard enough in the rear diff to offer effective traction control( and infact friction burns out the lubricating fluid between the spinning plates) so thats the time to be looking for a new stronger pump, than just turning off the dash warning light.
We have now developed a thicker Viscocity hydraulic fluid for higher pressure on hot days, so will be intresting to see if it still helps out vr4s in the winter time that have only occasional ayc light flashes.
Keep up the good work guys,
RogerRally
