headlights fading off

Have tried a search but cant find an answer to this, my headlights fade off leaving the sidelights on when hand/foot brake on and clutch dipped/in neutral, is this another added extra (the reason I like Mitsubishi's-they've a mind of their own!), can it be disabled? as my better half thinks it might be risky.

Sounds like a poorly earth or a failing alternator.

Repeat the test, but rev the engine - you'll need someone's help. If the lights brighten, it may be a poorly alternator.

I have the same problem on mine, several people have this trouble on their VR4 :(
