View Full Version : Folding mirrors are slow?

My left mirror is faster than the right.

I've noticed or taken more notice of my mirrors and it appears they need a bit of WD40 or something?
The right one is slow and juddery, well both sound quite tired when they move.

Can they be oiled or something?

I fold them all of time as the local pikeys have a hard on in this area for wing mirrors.

"My left mirror is faster than the right"

Ditto - :-D Its fun having races with them, but boring too coz you know which is gonna win!

Ditto. (spookily). Must be a design thing?

must be voltage drop from the left mirror being further away from the switch than the right ! :p :D

:-D :-D

Are your mirrors particularly slow in general?

I'd say it takes at a rough guess (although I will time them it if it helps) 4 to 5 seconds to finish folding in.
I could be expecting them to fold faster than they ever would....

I think the right one could do with something as I'm sure it wasn't that lethargic before, and it does judder slightly.

Maybe we could have a wing mirror race at Japfest to see who's mirrors are faster! :-D

Following a revival of the topic here (http://www.clubvr4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20581), I am ressurrecting this thread!

And I think I have the answer.....

If you measure the angle of the mirrors, they are not quite the same. The drivers side mirror is more perpendicular to the car than the passenger side. So, the drivers side mirror has further to fold. If the motors are working at the same speed, then the drivers side mirror will always lose!

Very interesting Nick ... I will have to take a look at that.

Drivers side mirror on mine sometimes won't fold unless engine is running.

You need the thread I linked to in post #9.

After heavy rain my mirrors do not fold. Why?:inquisiti

Mine quite often stop working after hosing the car after a wash ... I think there must be some kind of current sensing on the motor circuit so that it stops trying to fold if it's too stiff so that the motor is not overloaded! I guess the extra water in there causes extra resistance ...

Actually you're right: mine always stop working when it's been washed or heavy rain!

Think it's a jap thing: Just asked friend with import car (Nissan) and it does the same thing. So does my Mums imported Mazda. And it's always on the drivers side too!?

Maybe they all get clonked whilst driving and break?

It would explain why they never EVER fit them to european models.
