Palmerston North meet - Saturday 1st August

Hey all,

We are doing a run to Palmy on Saturaday.

Akl members will need to leave at about 4:30 from BP bombay.

Welly members meeting at BP Melling at 7:45 to leave at 8am. :)

Meeting at SSS (https://secure003.nz.serveweb.net/~sssnet/index.php?page=shop/contact_us) in Palmy at 10am. Address is 661 Tremaine Avenue.

We will go to Pahiatua via Pahiatua track, then up to the cafe on Ballance Gorge rd for coffee/photos on a sedate cruise via SH2. From there we will go back up to Woodville then along Saddle Rd(maybe even photos with the wind turbines if the weather is nice), then head back to SSS for a BBQ/talks. This should all be done by 2pm at the latest. :)

After discussing with Wynn, the welly crew will come home via the Rimutukas(weather permiting)..

We will have radio's on channel 5 if people have them as well.

The weather forcast is showing that the weather wont be perfect, but as long as we dont have pouring rain and gales it should be all go.. :)

ok also i would like to propose a meet up at SSS in palmerston North and leave from there,and upon Return we are thinking of hosting a BBq and drinks and then the guys may also have a nosey around the shop,hava chatter,look at cars,etc etc aswell,theres heaps of off street parking and room and evrything at your fingertips,so if you guys reckon you are up for that then lets arrange it. ofcours eif it goes ahead,lets come up with a light meal menue for the BBq,sausages,rolls,Tsauce,drinks etc,so please input will be muchly apreciated

As I and others have been having problems getting images to place correctly within a posting, not sure where the image will be, but here goes.............:sigh:

Cafe is at the eastern end of the Manawatu gorge, across the long narrow one lane bridge there........... see the red arrow on the attached map..... hopefully.........:uhoh2:

Another thing to note is the eastern side of saddle road was extensively upgraded so 50m turbine blades and tower sections could be trucked into the windfarm site, so isn't as challenging as it once was. Still OK road though, don't get me wrong.

I'll either visit the cafe before the trip or get confirmation it's still in business. Think that's a good idea considering the tough economic times, as there's always the chance a little 'out of the way' place like this cafe could have gone out of business............:uhoh: Wouldn't want all the route changed only to find it's not there anymore. I'd be in for the /bat otherwise.

Just to let everyone know, I dropped by the cafe' at the end of the Manawatu gorge on the way back from a little holiday tour of the north island and can confirm they are open from 10am till 4pm daily over the weekends..................:happy:

So, should we want to, we can stop in for a small breather and to take some pictures in their carpark if we want to................:5shots:

That's like an extra three hours over going via SH1 and Taupo. Talk about keen.

Was a very good day, even Ness enjoyed it... /rally

Roads were awesome apart from the wet weather and the livestock wanting to stop us getting to Ashurst... lol

Big thanks to Tim for letting us take over his shop, I think a bit of business will be coming his way with both of our cars in the near future.. /Banana

Another big thanks to all the new people who came out as well, as I mentioned at the Cafe I will be looking into another big meet, more social orientated in Taupo once winter has gone away.. :)
