that is do -able Dave but due to different height pikup points it makes the folding difficult, but not a bad thought lol

question about fiment (never having had one of this on either of my legnums)

are pre and post facelift the same?? (dunno if different front bumpers affect fitment?)

bradc

Strangely the same part code is used from 1996 to may 1999, then it changes all the way through to 2002. I'm not sure what the difference is, but the one on my purple VR-4 is from a PFl and the broken one I have in my shed is from the 2001 half cut, they are identical. The change in may 1999 would also imply that there is no problems fitting the first model to either front bumper, so I doubt the second part number would have any problems either.

I think they did a total reshuffle on Part numbers around the time of the Facelift.. But nearly all parts are the same..

i think theyr correct there, although fitting mine lastnight i noticed alot of unused holes, seems i only needed to tuck it under the bumper and clip and on the X-member 3 places then on the chassis rail covers eitherside wich where fastened to the splashguards, and thus its tight as, im not going to supply the holes drilledas owners may not want all the holes in

hmm wonder how much this would cost.. is this flatter than the factory tray (that's if i even still have one :S)

bradc
27-07-2009, 08:35 PM
It is the same as the factory one, and you most likely won't have one.

VR4WGN
27-07-2009, 08:42 PM
um overall its the same except iv rolled the edges, for easier flow and elimenated a few factory rivited hjoins to make it a 1 piece unit

confusis
27-07-2009, 09:29 PM
ok.. what's the proposed price? undertray usually means better fuel economy...

VR4WGN
28-07-2009, 02:05 AM
looking at $150 roughly,i havent had tiem to do cost etc but roughly works out to this price

confusis
28-07-2009, 10:03 PM
ok. might be keen for one. easy to fit? will have to buy bolts if my car is missing the tray of course..

i was going to try to make it completely flat and use packer/spacers to pick up the holes on the mounting points. it would make the bottom of the car lower but no lower than the lowest point. and as long as all the edges are sealed then it should work. and give the same effect as the original factory one.

but if you can get an original fit copy why would you bother making one. that's why as long as the price is right i will have one from the UK buy if it goes ahead. but it is a shame to see all thia aluminium go to waste that i have in the shed. i am sure i will find a good use for it.

your a VERY intelligent man im SURe you will find a use for it Dave lol
um yes these are a copy of the original but fit better than the original as it has a few upgraded areas on it i did and rolled edges instead of sharp edges, should add to the flow of air too...
um i will get a group buy/poll based listing up in the UK area, will catchup with elnevio 1st tho to confirm how and where

Just for your information, the undertray on my PFL is held on with 14 clips:

3 into the centremember
2 into the transmission side plastic
3 into the engine side plastic
6 into the front bumper (2 of which also go into the bumper brackets)

bradc
29-07-2009, 09:37 AM
That sounds about right, just substitue 4 of the front clips for cable ties :D

silly question, no experience of fibreglass...how suitable is fibreglass at taking hits off the road? Ive noticed a few scrapes and gouges on mine ? and mine is stock height.

VR4WGN
29-07-2009, 09:22 PM
well rememmber that the trays sustain alot of beatings ok,depending ofcourse on your conditions,my purpose for supplying these are merely for CITY or Local Town,NOT GRAVEL EXPRESS with crows Tails, however being fibreglass its repairable and cheaper to repair than that plastic(its hard to repair that composite plastic anyhow.
Fibreglass should offer the Same properties to the plastic being a fibre construction aswell fused in a resin

Umm strange question, but I still have my factory one on and it has foam pads to soak the little drips of oil from the sump and gearbox.

Could this effect the carbon fibre??
