The day after I got my car back from Eurospec, the AYC light decided not to go out at all. Now I've had situations before where it has come back on after 100yds or so and it has also come back on if the weather has been hot (rare I know). But I've never had it where it stays on all the time.
First thought was that one of the switch wires was broke or disconnected. No, all ,is fine. Next was fluid levels and this is good as well and is nice and pink. Next was to adjust the switch again by one full turn anti-clockwise, much as Eurospec had done for me the weekend before. No change.
So, guys the question is what has likely to have failed, or do I still need to adjust the switch more - its probably had 3.5 turns from the supplied setting.

Sounds like your AYC pump has expired...

Thanks Chris. Not really what I wanted to hear so soon after having a new engine put in. I seem to remember that there was a detailed description somewhere on here about the AYC system. Tried searching for it but can't find it - can anyone help? Also has anyone refurbished the pump to save the expense of a replacement?

Doesn't sound good Pete. Normally the situation can be rescued by adjusting the switch. I normally set the switches at about 9 Bar which seems to work. Roger Rally has done loads of tests on pumps and found the older ones that start to show lights are running at about 10 Bar. If the switch has been "backed off 3 or 4 turns it means the pumps isn't producing more than about 6 bar which
is nowhere near enough and will fubber the AYC clutch plates which will be slipping under load.

If you can't get a second hand one on here (Wodjno / Nutter) then "Roger Rally" can supply and fit a refurbished pump on an exchange basis.

Sorry it's not what you want to hear but it may be where you are...

Thinking about a replacement pump...

And I am not certain what 'refurbished' really means...

That was going to be my next question. If the AYC light is not going out at all, then presumably the pump is not working. Wots then happening with the rear diff if I drive the car on journeys of up to 20 miles on 'A' roads. Just trying to work out how urgent this job has become.

AFAIK it should be ok...

I would pull the AYC fuse out which simply disables the AYC parts but leaves everything else working as usual.

Thanks Brad. A bit of good news at last. Now I want to find that description of the AYC system and the thread where there are pics of an AYC pump in pieces. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Roger was in at ours last week Pete. I can ask him if he has an exchange pump for you if you like.

Cheers,

Ben.

Pics in thread abovePeter, Thanks for the link. Those were the pics I had remembered. Now just got to find the article about the AYC system and I can plan how to get out of this problem with minimal expenditure!!!

http://www.clubvr4.com/resources/ayc.htmHi Nev, I'm not sure now. I would have said the one I was thinking of had more details and more drawings or pictures, but I may be wrong and its just wishful thinking on my part. I'll have another trawl this evening and either confirm your find is the one or find the one I was imagining.
