So my stock speakers are fubarred, so for now im just gonna get straight swap same size fitting ones to at least get a normal sounding system for now.

Could anyone provide the speaker sizes / types for each of the speakers in the car?

apologies if my searching was inadequate and this already exists somewhere on here.

going to have to improve your searching skills to avoid verbal beatings:

I searched for "speaker" and the second link I got was:

Infinity Kappas would be the first recomendation. But search for "speakers" and you'll find out all sorts of choices, from DLS to Kappa, to FLI.

So go to some shops, have a listen to what you like, and decide if you want to keep the factory tweeters or not.

:D :D :D :D :D

If you have a sensible budget, there's a lot of choice in the £150 region.
If you want the best, you're looking at Focal PolyKevlar, top-of-the range pioneer or something even rarer.....but budget for £300 - £3000 :D :D

LOL! It takes practice, dude: stick with it!
No need to apologise.

If you can afford them...Get Focal PolyKevlars! If you're really flush......get me a set too...please? :D

the embarrassing thing is I manage online communities as my day job, guess i was just overthinking the query

still not completely sure on the sizes, 17cm all round seems to be the rough answer, although the offcentre third speaker in the parcel shelf looks bigger.

Ohh it's a Galant? That'll be a subwoofer.
Your best bet would be to buy a dedicated subwoofer and amplifier for that, and make up a sealing plate underneath out of MDF.

As per Steve above, there is a factory sub that was fitted as an option on the VR's..

It should be an 8", though I would go with something else as most subs these days dont like free-air. :)

Mount this on a baffle board underneath the hole and (unless you want serious bass) this will give you some bottom end down to around 50Hz.

Here is my solution with new speakers :

It still needs a more fine finish and will get covered with black leather.
Besides, the sound is already great.

Mmmmm....fully fabbed speaker mounts: something I've never done in the front. I am quite quite jealous!

Mind you, I also like having door pockets :D :D :D

Why the choice of twin 165s? Are you aiming for greater bass extension in the front (perhaps no sub?) or simply for sheer power output!?

Also, what crossover setup have you chosen for those? Individual amp channels for the tweeters, and then both mid-bass as a 2ohm load for another amp, or are you running one mid-bass and one tweeter together and a seperate one bandpassed for bass only? If so: what frequency range?

Very interesting stuff: thank you for sharing.

!!!!!!!!!!! That looks more like heat damage than music damage!? WTF has happened there: it looks like someone tried to repair it with expanding foam or something?!
