Hey guys,
Im in the process of running my first full tank of BP 98 Octane through the car. I am halfway through the tank and have only done 160km. So figuring I get 320km off a tank just wondering what everyone else gets here off a tank of gas. I havent been hammering the car, just a little bit of boost here and there (I cant help it!!)

Cheers

The only way to get a true test of the fuel economy is to check the mileage between fill-ups. You'll drive another 40kms and find that your gauge will be on a quarter!

My fuel economy in the Turquoise VR-4 this weekend:

430km from 54 litres - first tank used in the car since I got it, lots of boosting, brake tests, etc
475km from 43 litres - from Auckland to Palmerston North. Almost all 105-110kmh driving on straight roads, very rarely going above 3000rpm
225km from 28 litres - from Palmy to Napier via a few detours including 50 kmh of club 'cruising' - well you all know how long they stay 'cruises' for
380km from 49 litres - from Napier to Gisborne to Whakatane over some amazing roads, at least 60% of the time would have been spent turning There is this one section south of Opotiki which is 50km of gorge running along behind a river. It is simply an amazing drive as you never stay at a constant speed, always exiting or entering a corner, after corner, after corner. I'd suggest checking it out on Google earth, it is well worth it!

Brad, is the turquoise VR-4 manual or auto? And if auto were you driving in tiptronic mode?

Great thread there Ryan, Cheers. (You have a good name too!!)

Will be interesting when I put Gly's HKS panel filter and factory ducting on compared to the ****ty K&N pod in engine bay it is running at the moment.

That should make some difference.. but I know for a fact that if you have a heavy right foot (like I do), it will consume fuel like nothing else! I can easily get through a whole tank in a few days.

Ive had some big variations.
Worst has been 280km from 50L all around town.
Best is over 500km from about the same. All open road cruising.

I normally get about 300-350km per 50 litres or so cruising round town with a slightly heavy foot...
Best I have had was a trip round the Coromandel, 480km from about 48 litres... would have been better if I was able to stay off boost up the Whangapoua hill!

I got 505kms out of a full tank, travelling at around 100-110km and the fuel light had not yet come on..:D

On the downside...roadworks just after Tirau, got some concrete based stuff all over the car,all under the wheel arches,i shovelled almost a whole bucket out from under the car and wheel arches....they shouldn't be allowed to use concrete,or whatever it was!! :annoyed:

Best that I've had from combined cycle is ~450 with fuel light firmly on - about 57L went in that time.

Best I've had on open road driving is around 516km. Generally there's still about 9L or so in the tank. Even though I know my car fairly well, it's still not worth risking going further.

Brad, that is a good bit of road between Gisborne and Opotiki, and around the Hawke's Bay area, just have to watch out for the mossy bits on the corners in the gorge, recomend it to anyone wanting a good road trip

Only a pod filter (from previous owner), I have one of the HKS panel filters ready to go on once I can find some bolts to mount up the factory intake piping again. Surely it couldnt make 100kms difference though!!

Ryan,

I used to go though a tank every week, just commuting from Bexley to Sockburn, and a few blats out with the MSPORT crew, usually about 300km..

Plus the pod can make a major difference to the car if its not sheilded and is directly on the maf...

The pod filter will screw things up, increase your fuel consumption and drop your power.
