Hi all!!!
I have to ask the usual question.
How many ps is my VR-4 260 or 280 ???
It's '98 model, Japan's specs. Tiptronic 5sp., traction control, AYC, tyre size 205-55-16.

You mean ECU remaping or other ECU? (I think remaping will work just fine). The ECU is the same on both models 260bhp and 280 right?
The tiptronic gearbox can handle the power of the extra 20bhp?? (i am thinking to boost it up to 1.2bar by remaping and boost controler of course).
The superchips have anything for VR4's???
The tiptronic gearbox can handle the extra boost???
how many bhp and torque the car will gain on 1,2 bar and a remaped ECU??

I meant u change the 260bhp Ecu to the later 280bhp (from the later auto model or from a manual VR-4) Ecu to give u that extra 20bhp. The only difference between the 2 Ecu's is the fuel mapping, they got a bit more agressive with the 280bhp model.

0.9 bar is a 'safe' boost level but i have seen other guys running higher on the auto trans.

As I have posted elsewhere, I am currently emailing a company in Japan direct about replacement ECU's for the 260bhp's of us out there. They are currently doing some investigation and hope to get to me this week

If you know the part numbers these guys in NZ are very good
http://www.autoelectrics.co.nz (http://www.autoelectrics.co.nz/prodBrand.asp?srch_id=DAL&srch_name=Dale) and cheap. I got a new Gearbox ECU for my 1990 Galant from them.

Hi Guys
Just to also say that i have contacted a company in NZ who have advsd that a ECU for my car (pre-facelift) will cost $450 NZ dollars (£156 UK). Doesnt really seem to bad, they need a 'new model' chassis number though for the later ECU.
Are the chaps in Japan much cheaper than this?

Do we know which one(s) have the power boost on them? The last one is a 5FM/T (that's not Manual/Transmission is it?)

Im guessing here but there are three that have no end date and as my CD`s are fairly new I assume these are the ones still being used.

08/00 - SYGF SYGF3 MR578136
10/00 - SYGF MR578137
04/01 - 5FM/T MR578135

If the last one is a for manual, then the auto one is probably MR578137

Without chassis numbers I cant really tell....

My ECU was from a 2001 Legnum VR-4 auto. I'll try and get the chassis number in the weekend.

Any ECU after 1999 will have 280bhp, later the better if they made anymore changes.

The Legnum VR-4's chassis number I got the ECU from is:

Theres been some talk on the FTO boards recently about these chips that claim to give you an extra 20bhp. Im guessing they wont on an FTO but they could on the early auto VR4`s

ebay link (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33595&item=2420149030)

Anyone tried one? (or willing to try one?)

Does anyone know how much the ECU is in the UK, as i have recently got a price of nearly £700 from NZ. Bit expensive really!!!!!
