Taupo Megameet

Hey all,

When we had our meet in Palmerston North, we were discussing the possibility of a full club meet in Taupo.

Was thinking of a October/November timeline and make it a weekend affair.

Possible timetable:

People arrive on the sat morning and we do a cruise to Rotorua for the luge etc,

Dinner on the sat nite.

Sunday morning, early afternoon a run around the lake for photos etc?

Thoughts?

I know some of the welly crew may make it a friday to monday affair, which may work for everyone.

LOL, and I even renewed my Club VR-4 membership!

Been buried down with work and family stuff for the last two years, but I managed to fend off all the arguments to sell the VR-4... somehow!

Based on "It will be good for the baby, tinted windows to keep the sun off their face, wagon for the dogs, AYC and ABS for saftey!!
Then I started the legnum and rolled her out of the garage for the first time in ages, and Suzy rememebered just how much of a "boy racer" car it is, I could see her thinking "no way are you spending our money fixing this piece of junk".

Hopefully she would of recovered from the shock of all the repair bills by the time the Taupo weekend trip rolls around.

I can see me justifing it at as "Come on honey, we get to see your brother and father in Rotorua, that will be nice" :dance:

Make it an overnight event at least I reckon, 4hrs or so each way is not too bad, but hell, it's still 4hrs each way!

Ok for those who want to stay sat night, we(as in myself and Wynn(VR4 MAD)) usually stay at the Great Lake Motel.

Its pretty close to the city center and is not too bad priced. :)

I have also been thinking that we should do a run around the lake for a photoshoot at some stage on sat afternoon?

I think that driving around the lake is a great idea. We will want to get to Taupo a bit earlier though I think, it does take some time to drive around the lake.

I will be making the trip up with Wynn. :)

Now Welly peeps, we will be leaving Wellington at 5:30am, most likely from the bottom of the Haywards..

We will then meet the Palmy members at approx 7am, at Sanson by the bottle store, we will confirm with Q by text when we get to Foxton to confirm our progress..

We will then hopefully arrive in Taupo about 10-10:30am, and hopefully we can find space on the waterfront as a meet point. I propose that we try at the Napier-Taupo Highway end of the lakefront as a starting point?

I am going to warn the people coming up with us that while we will be obeying all traffic laws, we most likely will not be stopping for any pit stop/convoy catching up stops... /rally

Plan for Auckland members and Hamilton Members:

Meet at BP Bombay around 7:15, leaving at 7:30.

Arrive at BP Cambridge SH1 and pickup Fuel, perhaps other members. Should be bang on the dot of 8:30.

Arrive at Taupo at about 10:00.

I was actually thinking of here. It is invisible from the road, mostly deserted, and has it's own toilet block :)

It is just past that big park on the right hand side when you are coming up from Wellington, there is then a bit of a curve in the road to the left, then the entrance (in blue) is just after that curve on the left hand side.

Ryan - yes. For those who weren't there that day - there are natural 'vents' there on the side of the lake where 50-60C water comes out. It was really awesome to see last time at 7am with all of the steam coming off the water on a 5C day.
