Not long after buying my VR4, the tcl/eml problem appeared.
After searching the forums I checked all the hoses, all O.K, then checked the solonoids, found that the vacuum solenoid was dead.
Replaced this and improved the problem, lights still came on but less frequently.
Checked the vac tank, and found some possible cracks, replaced it. Lights now on only when hot, after about 10 mins.
Checked the solenoids again and found the vent solenoid to have a resistance of 140 ohms.
Ordered a new one. Should be here soon.
This weekend the lights have not come on, only initially when I turn on the ignition, so the bulbs are O.K.

Completely baffled by this, all I can think is that there was some damp in the solenoid, but I had cleaned it previously.

Hi Merlinator here ,this sound simimlar to the problems i have had . Where on the car are the solinoids are they easy and cheap to change?.. Mine only started to give me problems after a very very wet drive in cumbria ,so i wondered if water ingress somewhere was a possable cause

The solenoids are back right top of the firewall (as shown in this pic I stole)

Camskill vac solonoid.
MD165142

and they are about £50 + vat

Think that is right
