Hi Peter when do you think you will be ordering these & will it be the same as the downpipes we pay when you fined out the final cost?

I have to discuss how payment will be made to Selbys and then obtain a quote for shipping when I have some numbers. We are past 20 now with OZVR4

I'm hoping that Selby's will accept payment from each individual rather than me collecting the money as this is an international GB. Also this has to be a 20+ GB to obtain the best price . I'll be emailing them to find out more details about payment this week. I also want to make sure that we have enough interest that we do not fall below 20 as that will mean we loose the discount

Now is a good time for me, I'm still good for this if it happens soon.

peter thomson
08-09-2009, 08:53 AM
I have spoken with Selbys and they would want payment for all the bars as one transaction. Production time for the bars would be 2 to 4 weeks so we are looking at 3 months for delivery after payment. I'm waiting for a quote for delivery from Oz to the uk .

Any more interest.

Really stupid question, but what impact do these have on handaling?

Can they be teamed with polly bushes?

Jay

peter thomson

Have a read of the 2 links in the first post and yes polybush will further help to reduce body roll

I have had a quote for delivery to the UK and if I have understood it correctly it comes out at about £20 each. Delivery from the port and taxes to be added to this.
So to put this in perspective if you bought the bars directly from Selbys as a one off order then the cost before any taxes are added in the UK is
£408.18
GB price delivered to the UK is
£203

Anderz
09-09-2009, 08:47 AM
Wow that's a big difference:dance:

If there is no more interest I would like to start collecting the money to make the order soonish. The cost to delivery to the UK can only come down with more buyers as the quote covers us to 1 cubic meter and 1000kg.

Peter, unfortunately one of my KADs is leaking brake fluid whic means I have tobin them and buy some more. I'm not sure I can afford both right now as I must change them ASAP. I can afford the ARBS next month but I fear I may miss out if this is the case.
I'll see how the finances are when I get home and let you know but for now I think my request needs to go on hold.

peter thomson

We seem to be having problems getting a good price for delivery to NZ so I asked the shipping agent what he could offer. This is his reply based on 4 sets going to NZ

"It depends on which airport in NZ, 3 main ones Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch.

Also depends on final weight and volume but as an example and this is freight cost only Sydney – Auckland you are looking at an approximate freight cost

AUD 120.00 Minimum or AUD 1.30 per kg plus additional surcharges on top of this and local origin fees. This is based that the length doesn’t exceed dimensions as given.

Kind Rgds

John Evans"

I need to send some money across for the ARB's and the braided lines I'm getting so you can send moeny to me then I can handle the rest.

peter thomson
30-09-2009, 07:25 AM
It will likely be paypal to me as bank transfers are very expensive and if you use the gift option in paypal there should not be any charges. I then when all the money is collected make a single payment for the bars to Selbys.
Payment for the shipping costs can be sorted out when the bars are ready or on delivery depending on what delivery method is used

Question, are the amounts quoted in the PM the total cost and include the appropriate delivery costs for each person or is that amount just the cost of the bars converted to the local currency?

:anxious: Just wondering if there are still the shipping costs to come.............:uhoh2:

You need to remove the driveshaft, exhaust and the main brace from the front to the back of the engine bay though and angle the engine down to get it out.

brad i take it when you say driveshaft you mean what we in the UK would call prop shaft running from transfer case at the front to the rear diff at the back.

not a simple job for everyone then.

i have not been under the car for ages now, i had asumed it would have just slid out once the 2 mounting points and droplinks had been disconnected.

Hey guys.

I have to say thank you VERY much for being so patient with me as I packed and re-packed (twice lol) the UK and NZ bars.

It was a massive task, something that I was not prepared for, but foolishly thought I was. I didn't think it'd turn into the headache it did. Again I thank you very much for being patient. During the time of getting the bars to them being sent, I have been through a bad 3 year relationship break-up, all the sh*t that is associated with that (shared accounts etc), the diabolical christmas time and moving house. All with very little free time due to teaching schedule and unusual work hours.

Once again, thank you VERY much for not lynching me!!!!!!!

PS: Since this excercise I've discovered all freight companies are useless

NZ bars - as I thought the delivery costs to NZ included half the value of the pallet pickup. I will be sending this money on to Brad, $190 Aus to cover this extra cost. As discussed in pm to all the other GB guys I will cover this expense in the UK as well.

UK/Europe Bars left Oz on the 6th with arrival at a UK port on the 13April approx.

Peter, great news that they are underway. I would like to pay my part of the extra shipping costs incurred, is it $190 Aus divided by the group buy numbers? If so its not really that much for people to help out.

I'm going to have to order new droplinks that fit between the bars & the wheel assemble.

One at the back rounded off on me on the inside bolt & had to refit the old bars cause I could'nt get it off & one at the front started doing the same so I tightend it back up & left it.

Thought I'd post it up. Maybe something to think about getting before you strip it all down & have the same probs as I did.

Best to have new ones lined up & simply cut the old ones off with a grinder.

Best to have a pair of Molegrips to hold the rear nut /yes And a Hex socket for the front.. Wire brush and penetrating oil to be used 1st. /yes

Then no need for new drop links /Hmmm

The flats are very narrow so there is little to get hold of even with a good quality spanner and they round very easily. Some of these parts may not have been touched since the car was built so may cause problems even after cleaning.
Also as it is a ball joint it is not willing to rest against other suspension parts but will try it's best to twist out of the way and cause rounding as well

I used a small ish pair of molegrips and they fit in with no issue. The nuts are unusually soft and even after careful cleaning and oiling, the edges just round off.

That really annoys me with bloody couriers, why insist on a number to call and then just reject delivering becasue of an address query. Just call the dammn number on the sheet!
Not only that but surely if you've provided an address for delivery they should know if there's a problem before they collect the dammn thing!
The address I gave was my work address and is a small secure unit at the back of the main camp, we never have any problems with delivery unless they try to deliver outside of 7AM-7PM Mon-Fri. I have my home address which is 3 miles away from work, same postcode just a different street if thy want it.

[sorry for a bit offtopic]
I was pleasantly surprised today by a courier company (DPD) that phoned me just minutes ago telling me they've tried to deliver a package from gemany but nobody in the nearest 7 (!) houses was at home and if it would be alright if he would put it over the (very high!) garden door (he told me he was over 2 meters tall). As I know what's in the package and I know it can take a hit I told him it's fine (it's dry and sunny today and my neighbourhood is considered quite safe). Extremely friendly chap!

Most of the couriers I've met are good guys that work hard for their cash. It's when things go wrong at depots which can be so frustrating, esp. dealing with someone on the phone that sound so uninterested.
[/sorry for a bit offtopic]

Beastlee
18-05-2010, 02:59 PM
Shame I've not had the same level of service from DPD, their depot is 10 mins away and I've not had any calls from them despite having the bars since Friday. I've now personally contacted the German HQ and they still haven't had the decency to respond to me. I wouldn't mind but DPD have delivered to me personally at this address before so there's no excuse really.

Peter, however has been fantastic in spite of all the issues!

Mark, see this link

They connect between the roll bar and the damper. They are sometimes very difficult to remove so its just much easier to grind them off and fit new ones. Also they are a wearing part so it's not a bad idea to replace them as a service item anyway.

Sounds like a plan Lee. But while looking at the camskill site I've found there are also the front drop links and the rear bushes. And although they do not offer the front bushing (MR272646) I'm pretty sure that as soon as I take the original arm out this bushing will also be worn out. It's probably a few pounds-part and I hate to do things twice. What's your thoughts on this and the front drop links + rear bushes?

The front bushing (MR272646) is the part mentoined as 40699 on this picture:

The bars come with front and rear bushes, as well as oversized clamps to acommodate them, from what I believe. I haven't opened the package yet to confirm this, perhaps Peter can tell us.
I had accounted for front and rear links in my basket and with 2 x front and 2x rear the postage is still only £13 to me. I just checked how much it would be to ship to you from here and it's 8,90€ with DHL which means it's not much use to you in reality.

http://ozvr4.com/forums/showthread.php?4844-Superior-Suspension-Swaybars-Upgrade&p=175211#post175211

I am quite concerned about this as I'm not in a position to get it fixed should it happen to my car. I'm almost glad I didn't manage to fit them on Wed. I'm going to hold off fitting now until further reports come back as to the condition of other peoples arms. I will get the new links fited though as I'm sure they'll cure my knock at the front.
Revisiting the thread at OzVR4 has highlighted the weight of the new bars to me, which I had noticed seemed very heavy when collecting the parcel. I'm not sure I want to cancel all my weight savings out for what could potentially be minimal improvements. There's been little feedback on how the handling has been affected yet we already have two major component failures directly attributed to them. My car seems to roll very little and is quite firm a ride with stock suspension and ARBs so I'm in no hurry to fit.

Mark 4
12-06-2010, 10:35 AM
Looks easy enough to weld some reinforcement pieces in there.

I am actually planning to fit my rear bar today or tomorrow so I may beef up the mounting point while I am at it.

peter thomson
12-06-2010, 10:45 AM
I think there has been a fair bit of positive feedback. So far even though I have only the rear fitted it feels much better cornering than it did before. I agree with Mark that it is not a difficult job to reinforce and there is always the reminder that often the parts are failing not just due to working a bit harder than they used too but they are in some cases probably up to 14 years old if they have never been replaced

Beastlee
12-06-2010, 12:18 PM
I hadn't seen the feedback, normally it's a case of 'I haven't really driven the car hard but it does seem better'.
I agree that it is probably down to 14yo parts being loaded more than the ever have but my issue is that I can't easily get it re-inforced nor replaced without great expense. I don't need the upgrade but it was something that was nice to have, the car handles far better than I ever need it to. It's already cost over £300 and I don't fancy paying that again to fit new lower control arms, let alone start messing with the subframe. If I could get them reinforcement done cheaply and easily then I would have much lesser concerns.

hardarse
