Hey all, Well I have had a good look on the forum and haven't found any info to what I am experiencing, or maybe something needs clarifying.

So, when in 2nd gear, either in auto or tiptronic, when you give it the gas and the boost comes up and the engine is under load the whole car pulses violently or surges. It is about a pulse every second. Is this the shudder that has been mentioned many times on here?? Do you think it is the box that need a flush and service. If so, who do you recommend around West Auckland??

Cheers in advance

Dan

Have you checked the fluid level? If it has been flushed recently, did they use MM-SPIII or Dextron?

What you've described sounds what AT technicians call "flaring" - almost like a clutch slipping kind of sound? It does sound as if the wrong fluid has been used or the existing fluid is old. The ATF should be a nice ruby-red colour and should not smell burned.

SPIII, Amsoil or Castrol TQ95 are okay to be used. Dexron III is a no-no and if used would tend to exhibit the symptoms you've described.

I use Mike Jackson Vehicle Servicing (Henderson Valley Road - 09 836 2884 - Ask for Jono). Jono (The Mechanic) brought a VR-4 wagon after I talked him into it a few years ago :)

They flushed my gearbox in my 2004 Holden Commodore Automatic Wagon and my 98 VR-4 manual Wagon this week.

Both cars drive sooooo much better :)

Depends if you need a gearbox specialist or just an honest mechanic with a Transmission flush machine

Hey guys, many thanks for the quick replies. Alas the pulsing box was only the intro to much bigger problems. I have put another thread up. Cheers, Dan
