mid 90's mazda are among the easiest to steal! plus it doesnt help that they are pillerless so it makes them 100 times easier to steal then they already were!

There was a guy on here ages ago who'd spent a fortune on upgrades only to get his car nicked as he hadn't bothered with an alarm. Priorities out of kilt perhaps.. And he couldn't believe it had happened as there were porsches and other nice motors all down his street. But then they did all have alarms..

plus the fact that porsches and all eiro car for that matter deadlock. jap cars do not. they hardly have car theft in japan

Deadlock doesn't always help:

BMW's had a major design fault in the locking mechanism (also, Porsche and older v'dubs had a similar issue) that made it easy to unlock with virtually no damage. It could be done in less than three seconds if you knew how and if the alarm was factory, blink, it would turn off with the central locking.

I would go into more detail but it would not be appropriate but lets just say the only tool required was a small screw driver.. /bat

i would have thought an immobaliser is the best thing to get fitted if you can't afford both.

 maybe they dont realise if they nick a Legnum they are going to appear on garage forcourt cameras every couple of hours.

I remember a TV article back in South Africa that demonstrated a car thief opening an early 90's VW with only a cut open tennis ball.

Apparently if you position the cut on the lock in a particular manner and apply pressure, the air somehow pops open the lock.

Having never been a car thief I have no idea how this works!

Why are legnums so stolen. Is it that they are easy? If so, why/how?

Without giving out any tips to potential perpertraters of course.

My alarm was malfunctioning so I have switched off, I live in Manurewa so I like to live life on the edge.

Top 10 are all Jap cars then......do they not sell anything else in NZ ?We don't have many non-jap cars here. We have a lot of the Jap second-hand cars here.

alarms don't stop the car being stolen and imobaliser does. crap cheap alarms work almost as wel as mid priced alarms. they indicate to anyone in the local area that the car has been tampered with. If anyone in the local area can be bothered to do anything about it, (not my car not my problem).
an imobaliser if correct fitted will stop the car being started so it can not be stolen.

I wonder if these stats include all variants, not just the VR-4.

vacum operated locks. mercs use to use that system too. the tennis ball reverses the vacum and unlocks it

you will find that it is because they have gone to the european way of deadlocking the car. not impossiable to get in but alot quicker to break into the subaru parked next to it!

Japs are the most commonly sold cars, as they are really cheap to import and we don't really have anything "native" here. Holdens/Fords are probably equally as common.

Hell there's not even a Mitsi in the top 10. A fair bit surprised to see the Torneos in that list though.

If you put a detachable steering wheel will it deter criminals stealing your car since they won't be able to drive the car? :D

Probably one of those clubs is better. Make then take off the steering wheel themselves.

maybe there arent many mitsi owners insured with the AA?? cos for me it was far cheaper to go NAC, is any one here actually insured with AA?

perhaps this list, if its JUST AAs results, isnt a true representation of the actual figures, because maybe more evo or vr4 owners for instance go with cheaper companies??

just brain farting
