Disc protector plates are bent and rubbing by the sounds of it

Just my thoughts from the sound of it? Had you new brake pads recently or work done around the wheel areas?

i have had the wheel off and again there is no sign of wear on the brake disc or the back plate, that said what would the back plate be rubbing on to make that noise?

If the back plate is out of shape anywhere it could rub against the rear of the disc when the car is under its own weight. You wont see it once its jacked up. Make sure the gap is even round the whole circumference of the disc.

As the only thing holding the disc on is the wheel, it is hard to tell its actual position with the wheel off.
