Just today afternoon while jacking up front my VR4 I've noticed that driver side spring is broken. Luckily for me still held in place and haven't snapped yet, but I'm not gonna test my luck.
So, instead buying coilovers set next spring I have to invest some money right now, unfortunately, budget is very tight, so bye bye coilovers...
After some research I've got few options I can afford:
shocks
1. KYB excell series
2. KYB ultra SR series

springs:
1. Tein S sport soft
2. Tein S sport medium

My choice is KYB ultra SR shocks + Tein s sport medium springs, but isn't too stiff/hard?

Any advice appreciated.

Tomas, have a quick chat with Carl (carlos-1975). He is breaking a VR4 which has lowered springs. They should keep your car on the road for now so you could save up for the coilovers next spring.

It would be a shame to spend on a set of cheaper shocks and springs now and not be happy with them.

why not just a standard replacement spring to tide you over untill you are ready to replace them properly. it will not cost much, or get a spring shock assembly and make it really easy to swap should only take 30min or so.

my days 2001 mondao just broke a front spring, i think it to do with all the speed bumps that are about these days.

Paul you have pm.

Thanks guys for your tips. Love this club /woot2
Now I'm more convinced that possible used springs will sort things at the moment.
But shocks also to go... yyhmmm... next year. Front ones start be sweaty. Hence BC Racing coilovers idea.
Those classic sets of shocks and springs are my emergency budget, and still haven't got answer.

Can you just use lowering springs without changing the dampers? Any links? Thanks from me too.

Yes, I can just fit new springs, but it's like double work involved. Then again in a near future I have to do same job to change dampers.
So that way I'll consider only if I find some cheap used springs to sort things out till next year. Otherwise...

Here's links:

KYB dampers (Excel G series - all galants have as stock ones), here uprated ones:
