Useful with HIDs to reduce scatter.
Not sure I like the look of them, though......stick on bhp.

Would love to see a picture of the full front with them on instead of just the headlight.

Wouldn't that only reduce scatter if they were placed over the bottom of the headlight (as the reflector "reverses" where the beam comes from)?

No idea. I base this entirely on my experiments conducted scientifically with my garage door and a roll of duct tape. Covering the top of the light significantly reduced the lighter patch towards the top of the garage door. I didn't try it at the bottom...maybe that would have been even better!?

They look bloody awful IMO. Don't do it.

Sometimes I think they look good, on certain cars, but personally I would never fit them to mine.

I think I know what Garry means, and I think I know what Steve means. Not least from a little experimentation myself!

The difference arises I think from how far in front of the reflector the centre of light is. I believe the HID sits not far enough forward.

Here is a quick, simplified (and exaggerated) version of what I believe occurs:

You can see that (ignoring the fact that the reflector is shaped differently at the bottom to give high-level cut-off), due to the light centre being closer to the reflector, the HID light does not reflect 'reversely' like the halogens do. This is why those Euro adapter adhesive pads affix just below the centre of the headlight in order to blank out the rising cut-off line on the left-hand side of the road.

And this is why the eyebrows would reduce this cut-off on HIDs.

All IMO, of course. But does this make sense?

Of course, Nev - a properly manufactured retro-fit HID system would put the focal point in the same place as on a standard Halogen bulb - but as that very, very, very rarely ever happens (not helped by the fact that the physical way an HID and a Halogen bulb produce the light, that can't happen to the kind of tolerances required anyway) - you're possibly right about the different focal points.

So.....by that theory, moving the glass envelope further into the headlamp would potentually aid focussing.....interesting.......

You need the light generated, plus the focal point exact;y where it is designed to be when using an H7 halogen bulb.

However, due to the way an HID bulb generates light (with an arc between 2 points) and the way a halogen bulb generates light (with a glowing filament) this will never happen.

The attached image shows the differnce between the way a halogen and HID bulb generate light (taken from here (http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/bulbs/Hid/conversions/conversions.html) - well worth a read)

i keep changing my mind on them too. it may depend on whether or not the grille between the headlights is colour-coded. it isnt on my car and i actually prefer it that way so i wouldnt match the eye brows to the body. i prefer the dark band across the front of the car but if i had a FL bumper and grill then i would colour-code the eye brows. it is very much down to personal taste though
