I wish you lot would pack it in, I pay 1000€ a year and if the car gets written off I get nothing more than a V6 Galant Estate! I'm still waiting for Sky's European parent company to start insuring properly in Europe so I can go back to them.

I did try a BFG approved UK insurer but they expect me to fit a Cat 1 alarm before they cover theft. Given Cat 1 doesn't exisit in Germany as car crime is so low I would have to bring the car back to the UK for fitting....at a total cost of £1000 for the whole thing!

Yes but not all your policies are modification friendly!

My current policy Chaucer started with a galant v6 which didnt have a problem with lowering springs (verbally told on phone - no docs amended).
Changing to a newer car (lancer diesel) cost an additional 50% of the original cost of the policy.
Newer car apparently.

When looking into remaps and being the conciencious sort - inquiried about a remap modification on my policy. To declare this too would cost over £110 - so that was knocked on the head considering the amount spent to date!

When it comes to renewal time I'll be looking for a policy or an insurer that can specifically cater for a remap first.

Received my car insurance renewal today from Elephant who I have in the past found to be quite reasonable.

They want £890!!!! I am 25 with 6 years NCB.

Last year insurance with them was only about £650. Been quoted £640 this year with Quinn Direct including breakdown cover.

remap modification on my policy. To declare this too would cost over £110 - .
See, thats interesting when I enquired with Sky about an intercooler, and boost up to 10psi when I was 20 it was done on a percentage base, and would cost £110.
This year when I enquired about intercooler and lowering it was percentage based as my policy was over £1000, and would be £110....I havent bothered asking about anything again as my policy is well under £1000....

I cant knock Sky as they have been pretty good with me, but I think they sometimes do make up numbers.

When I renewed my policy, the renewal came through at £1350, which I quite frankly wasnt going to pay more than I did the year before, after phoning about I got it down to £719 with one, then phoned Sky who said they would do it for £750

When I rang up about a Skyline and mentioned I was 21 with a VR4, I was told my policy must be extortianate and well into the 2.5k mark, untill I pointed out it was £700, and when asked about Skyline quotes, I was informed that I would be paying in excess of £3k, yet I was looking at quotes on the interbutts infront of me for £1900,.

Even saying that though the customer service for Sky has been next to none, and not had an issue with them in 2 years and have always come out the cheapest eventually

We all have different experiences with these people - good deals for some but not others despite statements from them about dealing with imports/mods etc

It seems one broker is not consistently giving good deals on vr-4 modified or not...

Hi,

we are about as modification friendly as it gets. The specialist underwriters we use have percentage loads for certain modifications, a remap (altering boost) is always going to mean a load on the premium. You would be hard pressed to find an insurer who wouldn't load your premium for a remap. werre you expecting to get this added on free of charge?

For the vast majority we should be very competitive but we can not help everyone.

Yes, teenagers with nil NCB, convictions for high speed driving and recent/consistent drink-driving with highly modded car in risky area with no alarm/security...

But older owners with better records, fewer convictions and ltd mods...

It's the variation in responses from brokers inc sky that is amazing

And some brokers do not even phone you back despite protestations that they are the best deals for most and give good service...

I've got my remap declared and the increase in price for mine was next to nothing. I declared the remap, ebc, downpipes all at the same time and I paid an additional £20 on my policy!

It has worked for me and I'm happy with Sky.

i had a quote for a R33 skyline around four years ago. and for me at the time (31, 3 points for speeding on motorway, 6 years NCD), i was quoted on average £1,100 with £300 excess and the car had to have a cat1 alarm. no chance in hell i ws paying that much.

been with Sky before (on my old MG ZR) and they did beat every quote i had. but when it came to the renewal, SKY couldn't match or beat any of my quotes. which was disappointing.

but now i have my VR4, SKY gave me the best quote (£470ish) and im glad to be back with them. but SKY did insist that the car had to have a cat1 alarm. which was another £400 expense. but in the end, i know my car is safe. just wondering now, what the renewal quote is going to be like in around 6 months time. hopefully lower than im paying now.

I've not had a quote from Sky before so I'll give them a try next time round. I'm with Adrian Flux for my two at the moment.

Can't comment on the claims procedure as I've never had the need to make a claim with them, but I was certainly impressed with their efficiency when I presented a comprehensive list of mods when I was buying the 6G and asked for a quote. The whole process took less than a day and the premium that came back was realistic.

You don't get that sort of specialist service from an internet meerkat /thankyou

No I wasnt Ollie - I fully expect to pay for this sort of modification but not in excess of £110.

read my post again Ollie if you want to retain my business, I have insured many card over the years with yourselfs!

I can only comment on my experience with yourselfs, which on past cars (VR4s, FTOs, V6 Galants etc) with modifications (suspension, exhausts etc etc) has never been a problem or anything more than an insignificant additional premium.

In this instance I'm CLEARLY pointing out that with a policy with CHAUCER, on a financial basis, my insurance experience has been less than satisfactory in terms of value for money;
1. insure modded V6 Galant - reasonable £250ish
2. change car - unreasonable £125 to change
3. enquire about remap - £115 to declare

A couple of quick calls to your competitors show indicate quotes of £270 for my current car with a remap - not much more than my original premium this year.....
I hope at renewal time you can offer something competitive (presumably not via Chaucer)?

I would be pleased with that too! Who was the policy with (via Sky)? must be a different underwriter from mine....
