When I got the Turquoise VR-4 it made the usual hollow knocking sound over bumps and I replaced the lower straight arms with new Mitsi genuine items and it was fixed!

And then today I noticed while running over some cats eyes in the road that the hollow knocking was back, and a few times the power steering felt very heavy when turning at low speeds. Unfortunately the remaining arms (the curved ones) are $233 each from Ralliart...... *sigh*

The car has done 185,000km and the arms have been on the car a while, no idea if they are the original ones, aftermarket replacement or Mitsi replacement.

Are these the ones that you said I need to replace on mine?

Yes Zal. The same hollow knocking noise.

Yea because I've just got my shocks back after them having a rebuild and I still have that one knock every so often. What would I be looking at roughly to replace them?

The straight arms are about $100 or $120 each and the curved ones are $233 each

Brad - who manufactures the straight arms that you use?

For a fraction of the cost that they are in the UK? Why is no-one in NZ selling them to us? A new Mitsy arm in the UK is over £150 and I understand is going up to closer to £200 soon.

$122ish from memory. I got two for about $145. One of them is slightly more expensive than the other for some reason.

Two of my VR-4's (7G & 8G manual trans.) have this knocking hollow sound...is this from the straight arm or the curved arm? I have fairly new 555 brand straight arms on, not sure about the curved ones. I have been to my suspension & brake specialist & after checking my suspension, he can't find anything wrong.
7G has ground control coilovers & KYB AGX dampers, 8G has stock springs with KYB AGX adjustable dampers.
Strangely enough the other two VR4's (7G & 8G automatic transmission) don't have this noise. Stock dampers & springs.
Any ideas guys?

I got the Legnum MOT'd yesterday. No problems (excellent emmisions test btw! 0.15 figure on CO2 and 0,01 on lambda?) except for advise on slight play on the straight arm joints (just under 1 mm play). So I'm up for a set too I guess. Don't have any knocking or squeeking sounds (yet).

Brad,

Anyone ever approach you to a GB on these? If not how much you reckon on postage to the UK, they are quite heavy! I may be after a set asap, this price plus the postage is surely got to be waaaaay cheaper than the UK price

Would you be able to give me the weights for a set? I can get a price from Fedex for you for the freight then.

Problem fixed then!

Well if anyone wants to weigh a curved and a straight arm anyway I can get prices for them.

Should anyone need new orginal arms (straight or curved), my friend at MD-Performance (in the netherlands but shipping isn't too expensive to uk) sells the straight arms for 139 euro a piece incl. VAT. Maybe that is an option too. If interesed drop him a mail at info@md-performance.nl
