Q, you should buy that car! It gives you your 200hp engine and a manual gearbox, plus the loom. Then you could probably sell the chassis for a bit of money too.

but so are others! That car just seems to be too good to go for only $1500 or so. Like most $1 res auctions they attract alot of interest from people who think they're going to get a car cheap, only for them to end up getting carried away at the last minute because they still really want it.

It has done a LOT of km's though. I reckon it will go for $2000-3000, and definitely NOT over $4000

200,000kms isn't overly high for its age - 6A12's are good for 300,000kms usually. Their rings aren't prone to failure like older 4G63s etc. Main thing I would be concerned about is engine bearing wear if oil changes haven't been kept up with, and perhaps gearbox bearings/synchro wear.

Yeah definitely between $2000-3000, and not over $4000. But not $1500.

You'ld be surprised what some older higher milage cars are selling for these days, this so called recession has pushed up the value of 'cheap ****ters' because a great deal of people are selling up their expensive to run late model stuff (and devaluing it somewhat in the process) and buying up cheap cars, exhausting the current supply and creating a bit of a demand, thus pushing prices up.

But hey what would I know.. it's not like I'm a registered car dealer or anything :)

6a12 mivec's though? I thought there were various problems with the mivec system at high km's, or am I thinking of the mivec-md?

6A12 mivecs can cause issues at any kms really. My old 6A12 MIVEC-MD was still going strong at 208,000kms, and when replaced with a freshly built 6A12 MIVEC-MD it wore its bearings out within 20,000kms. Like any car, so long as they're treated well they will last long. That particular example FTO looks like it's had a good life, I mean it's still remained factory stock after 200,000kms that's gotta be a good sign, ie it doesn't have some 18" chromies and a pod filter brah.
