Sorry guys,

After suggesting the venue there is no way I can make the saturday :(
I am afraid football comes first in my life and thats the first home game of the season for me.

But may I suggest a cruise down the coast to Rockcliffe, great roads, better scenery and a big hotel at the end of the road on the RHS that will welcome you - they host the Rolls Royce vintage car club anually.

Once in rockcliffe keep going thru the village untill the road runs out, the hotel is up the hill on the RHS (cant recal the name) but there is a huge, i mean feckin huge tree in the drive way up so you cant really miss it.

have fun and take some pics.

Places like Travelodge (http://www.travelodge.co.uk/travelodge/location.php?hotel_id=202) often do internet deals at £25 per room for up to 4 people, if you don't mind sharing ...

(if any of the above is rubbish then i blame that 9th can of miller!)...... :sad3:

Not Rubbish but try this:

From the North: J15 on the south bound M74, 20 mins to Dumfries
From the saahrf: J22 on the north bound M74 onto the A75 and turn left when you get to the BIG roundabout at dumfries. Much quicker than the A709
From Ayrshire - well I guess you guys know the way to Dumfries, sanqhuar is a lovely place!

What ever way you come follow the signs for town centre.

Beware the speed cameras on both access roads. The A701 has a nice long straight that is regularly popluated by the sneaky camera van. After you cross the narrow bridge with the traffic lights the road is normally clear into dumfries.

From the south the A75 is camerad up every day so beware, they can be anywhere.

I suggested the white sands car park, but that was for a sunday meet. This car park will be full on a saturday so if you get onto the sand road, with the river on your right keep going past the main sand car park and at the lights at the end keep to the middle lane, over the road there is another car park on the river that wont be so busy on a saturday (I hope)

I can post up some B&Bs phone numbers tomorrow after work ( Iwork in Dumfries) there is a nice one on the road in that charges about £30 pp. Not bad I feel.

See here for a map of the car park, even gives a lat and long so the GPS users can have no excuse!!!!. The car parks not shown on this map but its at the end of dockhead at the bottom right of this picture
http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?lat=55.0649&lon=-3.6086&scale=5000&icon=x

use the zoom out to get the overall picture.

What time you starting, cause if it is the morning I might make a brief appearance before heading home about 12 for the footy.

ive been thinking and with a bit of help from Kieran, about trying to set a plan for our meet..
as Shooter said in an earlier post "Dumfries is a bit busy on a sat?"
so ive came up with this...So far?
meet time=12/13hrs
place = COLLIN (outside Dumfries)
also if you look at the link bellow for the map,and read through the route planner it say's there is a travel lodge on this road(may be of help for some?)
once we are all together take a spin along the (near)coast road which goes through a few place's and then follow the road into Castle Douglas (1hr drive)
spend a bit of time, streach the leg's have a natter maybe some food?and then from there drive along the A75 into Dumfries? (unless we like Castle Douglas)
i'll add more later but let me know what you think so far?

Just for info there is a game fair on down there that weekend so the castle douglas road may be a bit busy later in the day with all the locals heading home.

AAAARGH!!!!

:wall: :furious3: :help: :wtf: :io: :Scream1:

I've just tried several hotels. They're *ALL* fully booked in the Dumfries/Castle Douglas area.

Why?

Because, unbeknown to us, there's some sort of car meeting going on. The nice chap at the Crown Hotel in Castle Douglas says he's got the Saxo OC descending on him next Saturday! He sounded a bit worried! :-D

The best travel Inn that has 5 rooms available is in Glasgow (BellsHill!) :(
The Premier Lodge in East Kilbride is another posibility.

So.... Now what?

Anyone know of any others?

I've Tried...

The Crown, Castle Douglas
Kings Arms Hotel, Castle Douglas
BlueBell Hotel, Castle Douglas
Imperial Hotel, Castle Douglas
Urr Valley Hotel, Castle Douglas
Dumfries Travel Inn (Nothing else at any other travel inns within 30 Miles)
Carlisle Premier Lodge (Ditto Above)

Let me know as soon as you can chaps. If I hear nothing by this time tomorrow evening, I'll try and book us 5 rooms at either the Glasgow Travel Inn or the East Kilbride Premier Lodge! :sad3:

We need to get this wrapped up ASAP please gentlemen. I'm without the PC tonight from 7PM, so I can't book online or anything.

Dave/Derek/Ian/Russ...

If you read back through the threads, you can see the options. Let me know what you would like to do.

I personally prefer to swallow the long drive and head the 50 odd miles from Dumfries/Castle Douglas baclk to East Kilbride/Glasgow. It's a slog, but we would be more likely to get a room each plus a bar and somewhere to get some food if we want it.

But, I go with the majority, so Dave, Derek, Ian, Russ, what would you lot like to do?

East Kilbride/Glasgow. If Kieran can make it from Nottingham, then I can from Newcastle.
The only unknown for me, and I just found out Today, is that I am literally getting my car on Friday coming at the earliest as my VR4 failed it's SVA test. At least it will get a decent drie out if I get it. If I can't get it by then, then it won't matter where the meeting is as I won't be there. I will know on Mon/Tue, and post a reply.

Sorry for messing folk around, this really is out of my hands.

Yeah, I hope so. I was at a GT4 meet a few weeks back and, though it wasn't an overnighter, it was a blast. The looks on peoples faces as we went through the middle of Newcastle was pretty funny (there was ten of us). One little girl said "Look, its lots of batman cars in a row!" when we stopped at some lights. The fact that I just know this meet will be so much better is killing me, but it'll be kinda hard without a car!

For those still looking for accom I previously posted the deatils of two B&Bs I can recommend highly.
The details are on page three of the thread

As for Saturday I am now a definate maybe tending towarsd a no show. My missus is off to birmingham early sat morning with her mum and dad for a wedding leaving me with a four year old and an 8 month baby to look after :rolleyes5 on MY OWN!!! :rolleyes5 :rolleyes5 so I doubt very much if either would appreciate a run to Dumfries and back. Baby sitters I hear you cry, well her mum and dad are our only source there and they are off as well. Very inconsiderate I think :dozey:

Means I gonna miss my second day of car madness on sunday as I have a ford meet orgaised as well, also crail is beconing the VR4 on sunday

Anyway family comes first. :)

Any women going on saturday who dont mind changing another persons babys nappies? - long shot I know but I am of the opinion if you dont ask you dont get :-D Oh and of course there is the feeding side of things as well - hes on solids so im not looking for a wet nurse ;)

Have a good day

And remember watch out for the b4st4rd speed cameras on all approach roads to Dumfries, they operate several mobile vans down there and I can guarentee at least one will be on the A75.

Cheers

I KNEW it would be good! If only I had mine, I would be a part of this frivolity!Especially that BMW thrashing I read about on the kills forum. Very well done indeedy. Strangely enough, on our GT4 meet there was a brief encounter with a BMW Z3 who had similar aspirations to own Her Majesties roads. I wonder if all BMW drivers are the same?

Hey its Monday,

sposed to be working but need to read my daily dose about the Galavanting Galants. Loox like it was a top weekend. Its great reading all the stories and seeing the pix especially what everyone has done to their motors.... almost like being there, with the benefit of not being stung by the wasps orgetting sprayed with ATF!

More pix please... and VDO? :-D *I know I know, moon on a stick*

That wudve been a great opportunity for Some Top Gear-esque VDO of Galants in action on those sweeping roads... Scenery loox truly stunning too. Hmm. Also some VDO footage of Kills wud be great to put in an archive to watch..and laff

Cheers Guys..

ALso got to see Kierans new pet for the 1st time .... looking good m8 ;)
