I understand that some people have fitted the Exedy Sports Tuff HD clutch (MBK-7223HD), quick question about fitting the plate.

Does the spring retaining plate side of the clutch plate sit against the flywheel side, or the gearbox side?

This goes against the flywheel, I fitted a new MBK-7223HD Sports Tuff kit to my Galant prior to taking it to Manfield a few weeks back.

As was experienced with your Galant, the clutch will not fit if you try and mount the clutch plate with springs facing the pressure plate.

So nothing wrong with the kit and they fit and work well in a 6A13TT manual.

Cheers.

Many clutches have a couple of letters stamped on one side or the other to help you out. I can't remember all the variations, but one example is GB on the gearbox side and FW on the flywheel side.

Nothing marked on the clutch plate in this kit, cheers.

So there's definitely a deep enough hole in the flywheel to fit it then?

Definitely, it fitted just fine on mine, and I guess on all of the other members that have fitted this kit.

Have you been told differently by someone else?

from what i remember when i fitted mine (which was AGES ago) it had gearbox side printed on it but it did actually fit both ways. however if you do put it in the wrong way it will jam the box up and you wont be going anywhere

ok lets get this started........

Matt has Pierre and D>>>> from Speed..... saying Flywheel side.
and i have 5 Gearbox Techs saying no way it would direct drive permanantly..

i think the question here is . IS THERE ANY DIFFERENT TYPE OF VR4 BOXES OR FLYWHEELS OUT THERE WICH COULD BE CAUSING THIS PROBLEM?thus making it not a Factory Replceable item(as you say Flywheel side) and if so what would be needed to rectify this so Matt can have his HD installed.

i am all ears for info as it is only going to add to my knowledge wich i am short on so please do feel free to input evryone..

Yes dude I really did, you said you were going to check this against an engine you had in stock. If you had done this then you would know. Forget what the gearbox specialists are telling you and listen to the voice of experience, just like I advised you in Taupo when you asked about it, this clutch plate will only fit this way.
Still have the box it came in so you can see we are talking about the same kit.

Na that is not what it looks like on the box, it was an HD organic clutch as per the part number on the box, as per what Matt was asking about, as per what you showed me in Taupo that you were taking back to your place to check on another motor.

How do you find this clutch ? Any shudder issues ?

No shudder, smooth as, standard pedal feel. This is not a button kit but an organic one.

I have got another one to go in my Super when I get around to converting it to manual.

Cheers.

Sounds like me then, mines only 18,000km old and has a bad low rpm shudder when taking off and sometimes a shudder when changing down gear and is not that nice to drive!

Did you machine the flywheel when you installed it?
