I've been thinking of getting an MBC . Do these valves really make a noticable differance. Ive read various posts and watched a couple of vids on youtube.
Obviously i woud have to fit a boost gauge before fitting an mbc so i can see what boost the car has as standard.

and if these things are that good can anyone suggest a good mbc? are the ones on ebay any good (ball and spring ones)

These things are so cheap, is it worth it ????????????????????

Cheers
Frank

Im glad you posted this thread, as im in the same boat. Although I dont trust myself to fit the gauge and the controller properly so will have to get someone else to do it!

From what ive seen on the forum these are very easy to fit. If you do a search you'll find there are some good detailed pics showing exactly how to fit the gauge and MBC also loads of info on setting it up. Its just knowing which one to get!!!!!!!!!:rolleyes4

The cheap ball and spring ones work well, for me $50 for an MBC vs $500 for an EBC was a no brainer.

You will get boost spikes with the MBC though, but they aren't too bad (about 3psi when putting foot down).

£200 - £400 , versus £20 -£40

Quite a lot in real terms but it does give you far better control
Customers choice at the end of the day a MBC gives a great bang for buck

Boost spike is where the boost pressure initially comes in higher - for example my boost normally sits at 10-11 psi with the MBC, but when I put my foot down it hits 14 or so PSI then settles down to 10. It settles very quick - under a second.

Yeh well, cant really justify paying £200-£400 quid at the moment, so it will have to be an MBC.

What make mbc should i go for?????????????

Yes i get it now, but is there any way of adjusting the mbc so it doesnt spike, or does it really matter if it spikes ??

I got mine off ebay. The seller was gtchris ltd. he's changed the style of it but its the same thing. I'v had mine on the car for just under a year with no probs.

actually, you can get ones that allow you control the initial rate of bleed but they do tend to be a bit more pricey. I'm firmly of the belief that once you've spent EBC money, you'd have been better off investing it in an ECU that has boost control.

The type shown in aboo's pic is the easiest to fit, simply snip a pipe and insert the MBC into the pipe you snipped. The ones with the 'in-cabin' adjustment are a bit gimmicky and unnecessary really and seem to give people a few headaches when fitting. Turbosmart are well-respected. The cheap ones off e-bay do the job also though you may want to read the threads on here about the 'turbosmart clone' MBCs off e-bay with the in-cabin adjusters on particularly with regard to fitting and possible build quality issues (mine had paint inside the ball and spring mechanism housing!) e.g. http://www.clubvr4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=31684&highlight=mbc
Once I'd noticed and sorted this out though it worked a treat for more than a year that I had it on the car.

Yes - highly recommended EBC. It is the one with dual solenoids for even better boost control! /yes
