Has anyone got a Galant V6-24 with a 5 speed manual gearbox?

After some deliberation, I think a V6 would be a better bet than a VR-4...

Anyone got one going? (Zedy?!) :)

The V6-24 is indeed intended to replace the Mighty GLS. I'm fed up with the mickey taking :( , and having driven a selection of both VR-4s and V6-24s, I have to say that in my opinion the V6 is the better car.

Why? Well....

You have the 6 cylinder soundtrack.
The motor is very tractable and produces more torque at *idle* (about 132lb/ft) than the GLS engine is capable of (129lb/ft).
In manual guise the fuel economy figures are a fraction better than the automatic GLS.
The service intervals are the same.
Insurance (for me) is about £50 different.

It's basically a more rounded car. Ok, the VR-4 is loads faster and grips better..... But that's it. There's more of a gap (IMHO) between the GLS and the V6 than there is between the V6 and the VR-4. I get 8.2 seconds to 60mph, 31 mpg and reasonable service and insurance costs.

For me (and you may light the torches now), the V6-24 is a much better bet than the VR-4.

Power...

2.0 = 131Hp, 129lbs/ft
2.5 = 161Hp, 160lbs/ft

The Manual GLS achieves 60 in 9.5ish seconds and quoted top speed is 130.

A Manual V6-24 gets to 60 in 8.2 and tops out at 141.

I'm not surprised your car mangles Automatics. The GLS Auto crawls to 60 in about 11.2 seconds, topping out at 124. The 2.0 just needs more oooomph!

Is that before or after you said, "here's my keys if you want to take it for a run!"

Bloody nice car though! All the VR-4 bits that I like (ie: Funky dash and Moo-cow interior), plus the baritone voice of the V6 too! :)

So.... back to topic, anyone got one?! :)

i will up-grade some day......but ive spent so much time+cash on the GLS,that i'll be keeping it even after i buy another!
the V6-24 may be the way i'll have to go now as my hour's+wage's are in for a cut for FEB-05,which again remind's me to the "one that nearly was mine".....(dream:mode......white..saloon...2 turbos....heap of sheeit!!!).....

That really depends on how much I can shift the GLS for - they may be used as 'Sweeteners'.....

Despite all of the above -
BURN HIM ! BURN HIM ! :evil2:
(Quote/Unquote Kieran)

-stating that a V6 is better than a VR4 is like saying a Boxster is better than a 911 because it's cheaper ! :lipsrseal

-Kieran, be honest do you really think that by buying a V6 the GLS bashing will go away ? It will only become 'V6 Bashing'

-Whereas, buy a VR4 and you will be known as "the boy done good" ;)

Heath

ps meant to say at sunday's meet - thanks for the Galant CD you gave me at Santa Pod (very useful).

pps you are well loved in the club for the 'galant' :-D way you defend the mighty GLS - keep up the good work !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I should point out the V6 still only has fracionally better performance than my GTi :p

Get a decent, twin-cam 4G63 and you'll never need anything else [except a bit of forced-induction fun at some point !]

I also find that the steering of the V6 has a feeling of being very nose heavy which feels nicer to drive. My GLS doesn't give the same feel, it feels too light and easy. Could it be the tyres that makes this difference?

Japmetal
14-07-2004, 06:19 PM
It could possibly be the tyres; although the V6 engine itself would add alot of weight over the 4-cyl, which is more likely to be what you could feel.

Anyway, thanks but no thanks :)

I don't want an automatic VR-4, or any other breed of VR-4 for that matter. Hence why this thread is called...

Erm, not exactly. Not all Galants are V6s..... Witness the GLS and the GDi models too! :)

And the VR-4 is quite different from a V6-24 is it not?

Anyway, no matter.

Thanks for the offer but I'm not interested.
