Mods to Galant 2.4 GDI VR4 ENGINE STRUT ?

Hi,

I've recently bought a 2003 Galant 2.4 GDI. Redundancy forced me to go for a GDI rather than a VR4 however if I manage to get a better paying job in the future I'd still like to get a VR4 at some stage.

Seems a clean car inside but seeing a few spots of rust on the arches. I'd like to get the arches touched up before they get worse and there are a couple of small scratches I'd like to get sorted- anyone know of a good autobody in Aberdeenshire ?

I'd like to fit a Engine Strut - does anyone know if a VR4 strut will fit the GDI without modification ?

I'll also be looking for new wheels in the future once I've saved a bit as the previous driver must have hit every kerb in England. Every one is scratched to hell including the spare.

Hi and welcome to CVR4. The VR4 strut won't fit but you can pick up GDi specific ones from Yahoo Japan for reasonable money. I haven't used any body shops up here so can't really comment on them

The VR4 strut should fit fine - unless I'm mistaken on the GDI engine bay layout?

I've a VR4 engine strut fitted to my V6 which I bought off WODJNO.

The engine cover can cause issues with the VR4 bar. There is quite a big difference between the 2 bars

Agree with Peter, GDI engine is higher than V6, so expect issues with clearance.

Oh - does he mean a V4 strut brace? Just understanding.

I've just done a bit of searching and found out that someone managed to get a Tein front strut brace for a GDI that goes over the gdi engine cover so I'll try Checkpoint and see if they could get one for me.

I saw a VR4 brace on E-bay and hoped I could fit one as it looks better than the Tein brace.

The VR4 braces fit fine on a V6, can anyone confirm (sorry it sounds like you may have Peter) that a VR-4 bar will definitely not fit on a 2.4 GDI?

VR4 bar won't fit on GDI 2.4. But... if memory serves me right, if you reverse the VR4 strutbar (which makes the mitsubishi brand name point to the windscreen) it will fit. There are specific cusco strutbars that will fit too btw.
