Hi,
I have just found out that I may have to travel from Glasgow to Leeds, tonight or tomorrow, and I am checking road and weather reports on line, (but not getting much apart from its going to be snowy!).
Can anyone between Glasgow and (Mainly) Leeds area, give me an idea of road and driving conditions in your area so I can sort out if I can make it there and then get back home on wednesday or thursday.
How snowy is it.
Are the roads ok to drive on.
what has the weather been like.
I am going to Batley, near to where the the m62 and m1 join.
Any info welcome, cheers Louis

The main roads round my area are fine as the gritters were out the other day, but it is forecast to snow overnight. My sister does a lot of driving on the m62, so I will ask her what the conditions are like when she gets home this evening and report back

Don't be a wuss, dude. You've got a 4WD car !!

The Fylde coast area seems snow-free, as far as I know.

Fair comment, but doesn't help with the other 2wd nutters on the road when they hit you

Thanks very much for info so far. I checked the aa website, but it only shows roadworks and delays, and a general bad weather warning!. But when it says things like "40 minute hold up due to southbound carrigeway closed for central barrier repair", I'm guessing someone slid into it in the snow??.
I am pretty sure the motorways and dual carrigeways should be fine, but all it takes is one guy to break down and the snow gets a chance to settle and then you get people abandoning cars etc.
I intend to go M74, M6, M62, and the same on the way back. If you are in those general areas, can you let me know if things your way are ok?. I will probably go tomorrow, weather permiting. But the tv weather forecasters (scaremongers) seem to be saying its getting worse, more snow and lower temps, any info appreciated, cheers Louis

A635(holmfirth-greenfield), A640 (denshaw - outlane) and A672 (denshaw - rishworth) are closed.

A62 is passable (3ft snow piles at the sides of the road, 1 1/2 lanes clear) as is M62.

try traffic england and have a look at the real time camera feeds along the motorways you are intending to drive.

but as every one has said if it is going to snow in the area then the M62 from manchester way to huddersfied way it is going to be the worst bit.

EDIT:-
sorry should have put a link

And I doubt the alternative of switching over the A1 is any better.
