Hey guys, my VR4 was officially deemed a write off yesterday, so I'm on the hunt for another. Saw one on Trademe that looked reasonable, but they mentioned that the AYC had been disconnected (for some reason). If I bought it, how would I go about getting that reconnected? And how much would it cost? Cheers.

I think it's best to find out exactly what they mean by "disconnected" and why it was disconnected in the first place.

Depends on why and how it's been disconnected. It could be a case of plugging it in, but I don't see why it would be unplugged unless faulty. So they probably mean it's broken, in which case it may not be cheap.

Yeah that was my theory, disconnected as it doesn't work. Cheers guys, I'll look into it.

As Matt says, if it is broken it will most likely be prohibitively expensive to fix. If the diff itself is faulty, it can be swapped for another AYC, open or LSD.

If the electronics that control it are stuffed... well... It doesn't look good!

I would guess that the pump has failed or a sensor and that reconnecting it (most likely putting the fuse back in) won't fix it.

I think I'll just give it a miss, it would've been a nightmare to ship it anyway. A shame, theres not many reasonably priced tidy VR4s sitting on TM at the moment.

If you are in Auckland, it would definitely be worth checking out Brad's green VR4 :) rare colour, and I can say from personal experience that it goes very well.

Manual too :)

They wanted $5500 I think, plus however much it'd cost you to get it from Otago to wherever.

how much you want to spend?

About $5/6, but for one without any problems of course. VR4, Manual, <160k, Legnum preferably but I'd do a Galant for the right price. Why do you ask?

Or mine. Why would you buy something that has a fault like that?

As I have a complete Legnum, albeit written off, sitting in my driveway begging to be used as parts. Also, the body on yours Brad has seen a few more miles than I'd like, same as yours Subaru ETA.

Indeed the body has, but as stated the engine is from a 2001 car with around 110km's on it and to this day still hasn't made a single tap!

Both my Legnum and David's car have been serviced extremely well, me for a short period of time and Dave for a longer period, we are both rather OCD when it comes to things like that. I'd much prefer a car like that than a car that has been trashed, treated poorly and has unknown fluids throughout.

Yours needs proper panelbeating work though, it adds up. I'm looking at one with 108 on the clock, thats priority for now.
