Or the Delica....

Beastlee
15-01-2010, 10:24 AM
Delica's rock but unless you spend a lot extra you wouldn't have a camper. We have one and it's versatile but it's a go-anywhere MPV rather than a camper type vehicle that Mazz seems to be looking at.

gareth001
15-01-2010, 10:51 AM
You could of course go the yank way and get a day van? Get a V6 as a bonus as well then, some do V8's as well of course.

There's family in south east Italy, so do trips over there fairly regularly.

It's ~700 miles each way, and takes 2-3 days, so it'd be for sleeping overnight for 1-2 nights whilst on the move.

So, don't need a dedicated camper, but really I guess what's needed is an MPV that will also double up and allow sleeping when parked up.

Also, it will have the advantage that it can be used regularly at home, for shopping trips for the B&B business, and we can use it for overnight stays at car shows (and, if we get a Bongo, it'll fit in at Jap car shows!)

It took us over an hour last night to hammer the point home to Mazz's mum that a full on motorhome is NOT the thing they want! (Plus, there's nowhere to park it, whereas an MPV can be parked anywhere!)

mesobitchy
15-01-2010, 11:09 AM
we, myself and garry spent over 2 hours (yes garry 2 hours, 1 hour on the phone and the rest via yahoo) last night try to explaine to my mother that what i was looking at is far better suited to our needs then a motorhome.
jesus the woman was looking at American sized/styled Winnebago's!

the converted MPV is just what we need, and the name BONGO, well i love it and i do want to go for the 4x4 TD.

@steve, we have the touran atm, it is okies, not overly keen on it, dad has been banging on about the transporter for ages, but it is the wee tad to big we need to think piratical. and the bongo seems to cover all sides to what it is we are after.
something we can use every day if needed, and something to kip in over night if needed, something not to small nor to big.
not that the transporter isnt any of thoes, it is the fact is it just that little bit to big.

yes we have loads of room to park something like the transporter, but swinging it down the tight ally way up mums is gonna be hard work, and we dont want that, its bad enough we have to swing the leggy and the galant half way across the road to get the turn right or we will hit one of the walls.

the next step is to have a propper look around one.

so my mission, seek, look, find, haggle, buy! :D

but i dunno if i want a black one or a white and silver one......

lol

NB: the Italy trips is around 1400 miles! each way, then there is all the driving inbetween, then the 1400mile trip back ;)

Sounds like you need a faster car not a slower one. 3 days for 700 miles, are you pushing for half of the journey?

That said, I'd like a Bongo, if only for the name. It would have to have a custom Steve-install, though so that a) I wouldn't be singing the Um Bongo advert everytime I got into it and b) because they sound awesome (*not awsum or awlsum or even ahsum, but awesome).

Given that she owns a Galant, and regularly drives a VR-4, WildCards is, by his own logic, stating that Galants and VR-4's are also chavvy.

Given your requirements a Delica may still be a good option then. 7 or 8 seater with the ability to go most places a Land Rover can go and loads of creature comforts. You can pick up an excellent example for £2500 and they are very reliable if treated with care. You can fold the seats down to make a bed and the middle row of seats can be swivelled to face the side/rear. They have curtains in the rear and you can buy some nice accessories to make it more camper-like. OF course there's the added bonus that they're Mitsi too :)

Yes, Garry's conclusion is right. I do think the the Galant/Legnum VR4 certainly sits on the fence of chavdom. Some owners, IMO make bad choices and add parts to the car, bodykits, stickers, wheels etc and quite a few of them end up looking like something that wouldn't be out of place in the BarryBoys hall of fame.

I generally don't say anything because after all it their choice, but on this particular post I do believe Mazz was asking opinion of the black Bongo she linked to, which is, again in my opinion, fecking horrendous!

I can offer some info on Delicas if you need it. Have just done the rear brakes on ours so I have now done nearly all the maintenance jobs they need. The LWB is better if you're looking for a sleeper facility but hinder's them very slightly off-road. The Royal Exceed tops the models, we nearly got a mint one for £2500 but someone beat us to it.
