Why?

My thoughts exactly....................:vogel:

Apart from the obvious reason........ "because you can"............... :rolleyes4

Which isn't really a GOOD reason to do it though............/hammer /pan

Because facelift > prefacelift

scott.mohekey
19-01-2010, 09:13 AM
Because facelift > prefacelift

Debatable.. but then.. why not just use a facelift chassis? Surely Q has access to a few.

imo, FL legnum rear looks a lot better than PFL. Probably the only exterior thing that was greatly improved in the facelift.

hmm...good work Q! I like it. :D

By the way, how is the fitment of a FL rear bumper to the PFL rear end (apart from the position of the lights which of course do not fit)? Does the bumper align with the shape of the PFL tail gate? Any probs to fix it at the PFL rear end?

It looks to me that it is only neccessary to weld in the rear metal parts, to mount the lights correctly?? Well, I was always interested in having the FL bumper at the rear of my PFL (although I have to modify it to use the PFL rear lights).

I personally like the pfl legnums better

VR4WGN, would u post a complete detail procedure to facelift the PFL tail?

how do u weld ? spot welding?

how about a transplant for the ceiling panel with moonroof to a legnum without moonroof?

i think the tail gate would have to be swapped as well.

arn't they different shapes.

hey guys well thank you heps for the positive replies(except Wynn lol)joking....

ok now as far as the conversion goes i decided to replace the complete "light Panel" piece as this would be better looking IMO.

i would like to point out that if your rear has been replaced before then forget about it if your doing it yourself as its a Mission de-spotting full welds and youll go through hundreds of drill bits.

i used :
Facelift Rear Panel
Facelift Taillights
Facelift Bootlid
Facelift Bumper
PFL Gas Struts(still ironing out an issue there tho...)

as far a sfitment goes with factory PFL rea rand FL bumper and botlid, they just bolt up,except for 1 hole on the rear ontop. and the as struts arr different in length and positioning.

i de-sotted the rear of a Facelift that im wrecking (neatly) and the same on the PFL,(one was replaced beforme so i had a nightmaare de-spotting that).

cut the tops off the FL panels and slipped them into place..

Tack them in with aa welder(gasless mig(i use)
install bumper, lights and do an alighnment check.

if all good then weld up and panel bond(wich im going to do today lol)
note that be careful of heat transfer or distortion may occur.
for me this is ok as car is yet to be panel and painted

KHK
Moonroof conversion is possible easly yes,but costs alot of money,i would reccomend against attempting this on your own,again,de-spot the roof skin ad insert the moonroof one and weld up and away you go with the fairys

Galant Only- Rear bumper wil lfit but the tailgate area is totally different shapes and will look out of place..

my next step is to recreate a full steel blank panel at the rear of a shell and on the bootlid so i can recreat and use my own custom lighting system(2008 Lancer) so im hoping this will not be too difficult..

again thanx guys
