Hi all,

Due to the prang I'm going to need to get the bodywork repaired and parts resprayed, so I started thinking, what will look good and what won't?

To start with, here are some quick templates (pre-cut so that the bodywork is a separate layer) that you all can play with to find out what colours look good and not by adjusting hue / saturation / brightness / contrast (right click -> save as):

Galant VR-4 PSD (Photoshop) (http://trackmygps.co.uk/files/vr4-template.psd)
Galant VR-4 XCF (The Gimp) (http://trackmygps.co.uk/files/vr4-template.xcf)

One colour I think looks quite stunning is Electric Indigo but a couple of people have said it doesn't look very nice..

I invite you all to have a play and post up your examples / ideas :)

I'd like to stick with purple based colours to avoid hassle with engine bay resprays and V5 updates etc, although I guess if something looks nice I may swing for that ;)

Indigo quite striking but blue used for Skyline GTR34 is nice and might fit with your preferences...

Electric indigo looks like the same colour used on Nissan Micras! Not a fan.

And yes, good spot with the extra quarter-panel window - I thought something looked odd.

The "Rear quarter" is actually the spoiler : the colour mask is excluding it, so it looks like the window.

Give over! It's an extra window, complete with reflection and moulding strip all the way around!

The car is just wrong from the trailing edge of the front wing back. The moulding on the doors stops just as it hits the rear door, the side-skirt is not deep enough, the windscreen strip that runs from the front of the car to the back should be continuous and straight at the point where the windscreen meets the top of the A-pillar but isn't, the rear windscreen has a wiper that is sitting in completely the wrong position, the rear parcel shelf just looks wrong for an 8G Galant, and the rear quarter-panel is just the wrong shape.

I will admit that some of these could be as a result of the masking process. Jase, have you got the original unmolested picture?

The back half of a different car has been grafted to the front end of a facelift 8G, IMO.

Study the picture! /Elmo

EDIT: The side-repeater is too high up the wing, and the door handles look like a different style as well!

Turbo_Steve
21-01-2010, 08:38 AM
Actually, looking at it on my (MUCH better) work screen, you might be right about the rear window.

However, the side-repeater and door handles look fine to me, as does the wiper. I reckon that IS the masking. The longer I look at this on fullscreen, the more certain I am that all that's really wrong is that the boot is missing (I reckon it's been chopped off by accident in the painting process) and it's skewing the perspective on the rest of the car, making it look like an oversized corrolla! :)

With the plethora of easily accessible images of 'proper' 8-gen Galant/Legnums on this club, Jason makes the logical choice to Google an image that actually isnt a proper 8-gen Galant/Legnum :anxious:

Have a /pan from me!

And I think for me, the only colour I could ever go for would be Roanne Red, or Imola II Red (BMW). Deep metallic red FTW! :joker:

See, I quite like dark red cars myself, especially the one Atik picked out (red is my favourite colour, much to arguments with CJ as his favourite colour is blue, hence going for a purple, a compromise) but I don't wanna seem like I'm copying Atik ;)

Also I'm slightly wary of coming too close to "that" orange (the one that's on the Focus STs) as there's a guy down the road who has painted a Nissan Micra in that colour, I would like to keep a comfortable difference.

Not sure what to do.

It looks like a lollypop! Can I lick it? ;)

According to this (http://www.uniquecarsandparts.com.au/colour_codes_mitsubishi_M-Z.htm) there are 4 P78 codes and 5 Roanne Reds for the timescale of our cars.

Unluckily, or should that be luckily... the car is unavailable for taste testing now..

I don't remember the additional letters for the paint code? Maybe The Vee can help when if he sees this thread. I think his car is a 2000 model too.
