Time to plan for a good weekend to get stuck in and get'er'dun!

Will have a BBQ, maybe a few beers for the non-drivers and etc!

Just testing the waters here to see when/if people are free to come down and help, I'm sure I will be happy to help you guys out in the future!

To do:
Refit Transfer case (assuming I didn't totally fsk something up bolting the trans on!)
Refit engine back onto mounts
Refit Exhaust+ driveshafts
Refit Suspension
Refit wheels
Refit my confidence in my St-R

Then refit my body with a few beers and a good yarn with some good people :D

Can't do it this weekend sorry, I am moving the remaining few things from Karaka to my house.

I'm planning to be in Whakatane towards the end of Feb, either the weekend of the 20th or 27th. I'm also busy the weekend of the 13th

March 6th is Cruise day :D

bradc
15-02-2010, 10:44 AM
yeah I know, but the cruise route could always take us further south, Waihi was fun last time back in 2005!

Realistically though I may be skipping the cruise and heading down myself.

I may be able to come down on the 27-28th, unsure at the moment.

confusis
15-02-2010, 05:45 PM

bradc
04-03-2010, 09:47 PM
I'll drop past a box of bolts for you today so you can use any of those if you are missing some. That way hopefully you'll be able to do all the stuff you can apart from the few things that you aren't sure about.

confusis
04-03-2010, 10:02 PM
well it's getting the transfer case on that i'm stuck with - it won't slide on easy :/

and i'm workin 11--8.15 today :(

confusis
04-03-2010, 10:44 PM
How much can I refit with the transfer case still off? Radiator? Loom? Starter motor?

VR4WGN
04-03-2010, 11:53 PM
its easy it will just slide on if you jiggle it on the spline axis on a latitude way if you know what i mean and push on at the same time

scott.mohekey
05-03-2010, 12:44 AM
I find it easiest if you can get right underneath the car and have the transfer case resting on your chest, then lift it up into position and jiggle it into place.

confusis
06-03-2010, 11:48 PM
brad are you heading here for much time today?

bradc
07-03-2010, 07:56 AM
Left Whakatane at 3:30 so just went straight home. Have you tried again with the transfer case?

confusis
07-03-2010, 07:59 AM
tried and failed - no way i can lift the thing under there... apparently i have someone coming later this evening but doubt they know wtf they're doing

confusis
07-03-2010, 08:54 AM
correction - transfer case is in and bolted on properly. luckily i have a few days off this week. now to borrow a trolley jack for the motor

confusis
09-03-2010, 11:21 PM
driveshaft is in, engine xmember, passenger suspension, intake, and engine is back on all 4 mounts. all plugs have been plugged in except for the starter motor. still need to bolt the torque convertor on

wintertidenz
09-03-2010, 11:26 PM
Good news then!

confusis
10-03-2010, 12:18 AM
yup. lots of little stuff. I managed to borrow a trolley jack designed for tractors. w00t

confusis
10-03-2010, 12:56 AM
I have found a 'D' bracket with a rubber bush and have no idea where it goes. any ideas? there are already two rubber bushes on each end of the swaybar so can't be them.. hmm

sway bar mount

scott.mohekey
10-03-2010, 01:14 AM
Hmm. it looks like a sway bar one. It's not a spare from brad's box is it?

confusis
10-03-2010, 01:20 AM
don't think it's brads, as it was sitting in my parts tray.

How many mounts are there on the swaybar? the two bushes that have flat mounts(the bush is mounted in a cutout? in the subframe). where would this one be located as i traced the bar through from one side to the other and couldn't see any holes for it, or any place the bar is close enough to the chassis to mount it.

bradc
10-03-2010, 08:27 AM
There are two like that, can't think of any other place they would come from.

confusis
10-03-2010, 08:33 AM
hmmm... the two swaybar mounts i can see are recessed into the subframe. would there be 4 mounts for the bar?

Gly
10-03-2010, 09:39 AM
rear sway bar mount

confusis
10-03-2010, 09:40 AM
rear as in back end of the car? or basically just up at the middle rear of the front swaybar?

Gly
10-03-2010, 09:45 AM
back end of the car, rear axle sway bar

confusis
10-03-2010, 09:52 AM
oh.. so how did that end up in my parts tray? haven't touched the arse end o.0

VR4WGN
10-03-2010, 10:07 AM
you only have 2 mounts in the front sub frame!!! maby Brad somehow when he got my Cusco bar with the nolathanes?? it was almost a year ago lol

confusis
10-03-2010, 10:09 AM
hmmm weird. oh well if it isn't for my car it's going in brad's parts box!

confusis
10-03-2010, 11:41 PM
It moves.

Just not under it's own power. Suspension is all done. Just cooling, atf lines, and torque converter to go .

confusis
13-03-2010, 09:30 PM
bought a new ratchet yesterday as my 1/2" drive one was buggered. Went to Mitre10 looking for one and they had nada. I then walked back thru town and noticed they had a tool expo on in the town hall. Score! Got me a new 1/2" drive ratchet for $22 with a good warranty.. 'Rolson' brand. looks identical to one my grandad had for decades and still worked fine when it was bequeathed to my uncle.

Torque convertor time when my son goes for a nap!

confusis
14-03-2010, 01:23 AM
atf is in, radiator is in, no coolant in yet. exhaust is basically on bar two of the rubber mounts.

to do:
get the engine turned over to bolt the t/c on
coolant, transfer case oil
final bolt on engine x member, double check drive shaft bolts
exhaust rubber mounts
buy some octane booster to bring the old petrol in the tank (1/5 of a tank) back up to somewhere near 95

I tried turning the motor over but i think it's partially seized or i'm weak! couldn't budge it. Only had the leverage of a ratchet though.

bradc
14-03-2010, 01:49 AM
You should be able to rotate the engine around by yourself, maybe you could put a pole over the end of the ratchet handle to make it a bit longer?

confusis
14-03-2010, 02:49 AM
Didn't have a cheater bar handy unfortunately
