Hi Guys,

Does anybody have any suggestions for where to get my Legnum VR4 serviced in the south manchester area? I've just bought mine 2 days ago and wanted to get a full service done including timing belt...

Cheers

Nick Mann Services located in South Birmingham is well recommended.

Richy Rich's Handyman Services is also well recommended. Located in Stoke.

Eurospec is probably highest recommended but thats in Guildford so probably a bit too far for you.

What's the opinion on what type of garage to go for... This is my first performance car so wasn't sure whether to use a Mitsubishi specialist or a performance car specialist?!? (i'm assuming to steer clear of the back street garages...)

In all honesty, you would get better service and better maintenance provided by either Nick or Richy compared to Mitsubishi or just a local 'performance specialist'. It would cost you a fair few ££s less too! Eurospec are also excellent but they are much further away.

for timing belts mate take it to any garage....its not a ferrari.

As for the oils, then yes you need somone who knows what there doing, or at least what oil to put in it aint rocket science!

Well, you SAY that, Alan, but mitsubishi themselves don't actually know how to corerectly change the gearbox fluids, so I'd say that doing the autobox IS a specialist job.

However the engine oil is dead easy, and the AYC should be possible for anyone who has worked on Evos.

The timing belt is..interesting. It's an involved job, and a garage who hasn't done it before is going to charge you a fair few dollars to do it.

Well i've just been quoted £250 for a major service and £200 for a timing belt... No idea if that's reasonable but the garage is a mistu specialist and the guys says he used to have a VR4. does that sound reasonable to you compared to some of the others?

My thoughts as well sounds to cheap if he can do a cambelt for that price and all parts suppled he will get loads of work.

The cam belt parts with water pump are circa £150 and it's a 7hr + job so £200 is very cheap

Thanks for the tip, that was just for the timing belt... It worries me that the garage wouldn't suggest doing the whole belt kit while doing the timing belt... I've also just found out the last owner was using semi-synth 10w40 oil... :furious4:

Better get it in quick! Even being new i know i should be using 0w30 fully synth. Think i'll treat her to some Amsoil

What's mileage?
It all depends also on mileage.
Personally whilst doing belt I'd change camshaft seals and crankshaft seal.
Optionally I'd change also:
- hydraulic tensioner
- crank pulley
- alternator belt tensioner pulley
- PAS belt tensioner pulley
But as mentioned above it depends on mileage.

The Car has 168.000 km on the Clock

This is what i mean, i buy the Kit with
1. OE Spec Cambelt
2. Koyo Tensioner
3. Centre Idler Bearing
4. Alt Belt
5. PS belt

these are all the belts??

at first i will do all the belts,i think that is expensive enough (my Wife hates me and the Legnum):anxious:

With this mileage camshaft seals and crank seal are "must do".
I'd go also for:
water pump
hydraulic tensioner
crank pulley
You will have 50/50 chances that one of above will fail in a near future, so save yourself double costs on labour and do at once.
