Well as I had the day off I thought I would accelerate the recall situation and give my local dealer a call.

Spoke to this lass on the service desk, she had heard all about the lower balljoint recalls on the Galants. Explained was a VR4 Jap import etc and she said she could check with Mitsy. All fine up to now. Then the sh1t started....

/rant mode on

1: She would not accept my word for my chassis number over the phone and I had to drive the car to them for them to write it down :veryangry

2: I get there with the car and three printouts from Mitsy Japan's website for the 3 recalls affecting my chassis number (fuel tank/brakes/lower arms) and told her I wanted all three checked - she said she could not accept my print outs as evidence and would have to check with Colt Cars UK via Japan and get back to me - even though it's from Mitsy's site ! :veryangry

3: Then told that she thinks it will take 3 to 4 weeks to get an answer from Japan via Colt to confirm my car needs to be booked in and if the brakes/fuel tank were already done - :uhoh: :wtf: - how long does it take to check a f**kin computer !!!!

/rant mode off

where is the site that lists recalls, please? I think I may have one of the ones that the brakes may fail on, and as it's my wifes car I'd like to get it sorted!

Thanks,

Calum

This is the ASC info which may affect the braking:

Reason for Recall
Vehicle behavior control operation of brakes (active stability control system: ASC) Putting, when you take in ASC hydraulic powerpack and because there are some where durability of the diaphragm inside the gas charging type accumulator which is attached is insufficient, you continue use in that way state, there are times when the enclosure gas inside the accumulator mixes in the brake fluid, at the time of brake pedal operation when the feeling where control force is not transmitted does, it is worst, there is a possibility damping force decreasing.

Corrective Action
All vehicle, the constitution system which includes the ASC hydraulic powerpack which uses the particular accumulator is replaced the measure item (the system which does not use the gas charging type accumulator) with.

Affected Chassis (numbers)
Galant
EC5A-0000015 - EC5A-0100910 (2,355)

Legnum
EC5W-0000024 - EC5W-0101743 (8,934)

Thanks. Well that definitely covers mine then! Always thought the brakes were a bit spongy!

Also found this:

http://www.mmnz.co.nz/jade/jadehttp.dll?Recall_Search

which gives me this response:

Your vehicle is one of 343 Galant/Legnum VR4s on the LTSA register.

There is a risk of brake failure due to the active stability system malfunctioning.

Please do not drive this vehicle until new components have been fitted.

The parts and labour will be supplied free of charge.

I'm a bit worried about the steering and fuel tank ones too. How can I find out more? Is it best to ask my local mitsubishi dealer?

My Mitsy dealer (poole Mitsubishi) say they are snowed under with recalls, mainly pajero's and says please wait for a letter.

Nick, I would do the same as me and get them to chase up with Japan to confirm you need to have yours checked. I have this funny feeling all the imports will never get a letter (well maybe in a few months) !
