i want an extra key

Hi all i am just inquiring on behalf of my mother who recently purchased a legnum wagon and she only has one key. The key lock mechanisim dose not work , she had a emobileser fitted and they noticed the key was in poor condition. My question is can she go to a locksmith and just get a generic key? all will she have get one from a mitshibishi service centre in Japan?

It's an 8g legum vr4 wagon 2000 model

it could have an inbuilt imoboliser , tell her to try a key cutting place and to try the new key with the old key no where near the car , if it works then there you go if not go to mitsi and pay loads for a new key

i dont think the jap imports had chips in the keys
