Hello everybody!

I would like introduce myself. My name is Viktor, I'm from Moscow, Russia. I'm an owner of MMC Galant, 2.5L, 1997. This car is my dream from childhood. I purchase it 4 years ago and repaired it only by myself. Nowtime I have good experience in reparing and tuning all specs Galant and Legnum and I would like to get a new experience in your community and to share my experience to you.

There is my Galant on a picture below;)

Sorry for my English, I just study it.

Don't worry about your english! It will be a lot better than most peoples Russian!

Have you found an easy way to release more power from the non-turbo 2.5 V6? It seems to be a constant question on this site that we don't have a good answer for.

Nick Mann,

Thanks! We have found some solutions for 6a13 engine. First of all, it would be great to disassemble an engine to replace all worn-out parts and to polish cylinder head air channels. Our engines are enough old (for Russia it's a great fortune to find a car, that run less than 45000 miles) and you will find a lot of oil deposit inside. Next, I replaced stock intake manifold to other one from turbo engine (it suits "bolt-on", without any modifications (for cars without cruise control)) Then I made a custom cold air intake (custom aluminium pipes and air filter box). I used bolted connection with rubber gasket for box, but it would be better to use argon welding (it's expensive, but it will make box 100% germinal). Next step was exhaust. There is only one oxygen sensor on cars, that produced up to 1999 year, so you may remove catalyst converter without any issues with ECU. I installed the Greddy kit, produced for VR4, that demands some modifications (rear body subframes for 4WD and FWD cars are different). Next, I installed Toyota Supra fuel pump (part no. 23221-46110) and VR4 fuel jets and ramp. When fuel feeding system had been modified, I was need to modify the ECU. There is a good specialist, who modified stock firmware. (We spend 4 hours, driving ring road with laptop connected to ECU to find the best specs ;) ). After that modifications we got about 200HP on wheels. It's enought for me, so, the next modifications was only styling and consumables replacement.
But there are some cars, where the engines had been swaped from 6a13 to 6a13tt. You'll need an engine, wires, ECU and a lot of other small part to do that, but there are a good solution (for Russia). We purchase an crashed VR4 in Japan and import it as machine spares (non as car), because an import taxes for spares are too much lower than for car, and we take all necessery parts from it. After swap you will have a lot of spare part for sale or in store.

I hope, that that information will be useful :)

Thank you! Unfortunately, I didn't test it on rolling road. We used APEXi RSM for power measurement. I understand, that it is not a high degree of accuracy, but I suppose it's quiet good.
Dynamometer test is too expensive there( More, than $150 per run.

Welcome! 200hp from the N/A 6A13 V6 engine is very nice! It should have been somewhere near that from factory in my opinion. Or at least around 185hp instead of the 163hp it is standard. Good job!
