I passed my test in a Monty-no-go.

They were cheap workhorses but not exactly future classics! I'm not sure if I would be impressed that someone still had one or not. Heh!

This one of the reasons I am hanging on to mine. Most of the other poorly maintained cars will be on the scrapheap soon enough (Given their low value nowadays).

It all my years of watching cars through the years, fords, vauxhalls, etc. eventually only a few remain after 20+ years. Either well looked after or wreck on it's last legs.

So I am kinda hoping one day, we may say "You dont see many of these about" in reference to the VR-4.

Awesome... a guy down the road from me broke a Montego turbo when I had my turbocharged Mini. I bought the intercooler and pipes for about £30. It had the same blown-through HS44 carb set-up, so it would have bolted straight on, but there wasn't room in the engine bay to fit it.
I ended up selling the whole engine to a mate with a Clubman, and he made a pretty quick car with it.

I'm ashamed to say that I live in the same town as that thing. Never seen it about on the roads though.

It looks like the rover my parents-in-law had a few years back, exept for the colour and turbo. Don't like it one bit tbh.

..and don't forget the "shopping trolley" its little brother the maestro turbo. Upset a lot of *cool* hot hatches in its day. Probably one of the quickest around too in 1989. Mid to high 6 secs sprint time and around 15 secs 1/4 mile.

Well I had several of these in my younger days.

Fantastic work horses, reliable and easy to maintain. Pretty nippy too when you are young. The pick of the bunch I had was a white 2.0 Turbo one.......loved it ! Unfortunately it was stolen and written off in a police chase.

My Dad had a 'Y' Reg MG Maestro in Black with red. He had it for years and was the faithful workhorse. Dad used to pack us 3 kids in the back complete with luggage and the dog in the boot!! He was definitely the king when it came to packing that car! :smoking:

Not everybody's cup of tea maybe, but had the pleasure of several Montes and maestros where I used to work. The bigger engined ones were great. Easy to drive and well balanced. Had the Maestro 2.0 Turbo for a little while..........unreal.......it was just so quick (at that time of course) Fling it at any corner and you knew it'd go round.

My dad had a 2.0 Auto Montego Countryman Estate. It was bloody awful, gear changes almost had you through the windscreen and it took an age to get up to speed. That said, it was reasonably comfortable and had 7 seats. I think it went to the scrappy in the end as it turn orange and crumbly.
