Some of you my know i bought a vented bonnet for my car not so long ago,
The car went in for it to be fitted and painted last thursday along with the front bumper as it had a few scuffs.
The day i was ment to pick it up i had a call from the paint shop saying the paint code doesn't match the paint!
I posted a thread about it and got a lot of help (thanks) saying there was two different types of paint, I spoke to the paint shop and they said that its a bigger problem than that!
They sent the fuel cap off to some paint specialist who looked at it through a spectral analysis machine or something like that,
The result of that was that it was a Toyota colour????
So they sent that colour but it STILL didnt match!!!
So i have just gone down to the paint shop to see the car and talk to the guy,
I always knew the car had, had paint but when i got there he told me it had been totally resprayed!!!! in the wrong colour!!!
The only parts that hadn't been painted was the roof and in the door shuts,
its a pretty good match to the original colour just with a flick of green in it so i never noticed and neither did some other Legnum owners with the same colour car as mine who saw it.
So what was going to be a £500 bonnet and bumper re spray has turned in to a £1600 total re spray!! Bar the roof of course as thats original!
And as some of you may remember i was going to sell the car a little while ago, well not now, i'll be buried in this bast**d!!!
Unless some one wants to give me £5000 for it!!
This is how it looked this morning

Wow.....er......at least you get to choose the colour now :D

Or, alternatively, why not re-do just the bonnet and roof in black...er....or something.

you can always leave the rest of the car as it is and just have the bonnet and bumper painted the correct colour. you said yourself you had not noticed the difference in colour.

you could get them to do a sample of the correct silver colour with that green fleck in it that you mentioned.

or as steve said go for something completely different and go for black bonnet. you will not notice the bumper being slightly off with a big slab of black in between.

just a thought.

Also, most bumpers (and other plastic parts, e.g. spoiler) on VR-4 tend to look a slighter different colour out of the factory.

They did a tester card with the original colour and once you put it up against the car it stands right out!!
As for the black i i don't like black bonnets on cars unless the car is black that is or i would of got the carbon one.
Im not to annoyed as the car could do with a freshen up, so it will be a very clean car, i said to the missis that this means i'll be going to every meet now to show it off!!

Well im used to the simplest thing being a problem with this car, nothing has been easy! so if i didn't see the positive i'd probably break down!
If and when i come to sell it, it will be like new!!

you never noticed the roof before because it is not directly against any paint of another panel, plus it's reliable to the angle of light bouncing back from it......roof is flat.. bonnet is flat...rest of car upright ..if you know what i mean.lol....and metallics are notoriusly hard to match even with the correct colour, what most bodyshops do if just painting say the bonnet is flash the top edges of the wings and 'a' posts and then clear those panels at same time as bonnet.... this tricks the eye when looking at bonnet as your eye cannot see down the wings, but there is no conflict of colour...and again different when looking at wings the bonnet will look slightly different due to angle of light and curvature of wing top you can see the sky etc reflecting off it......................but thats not a bad offer for paintjob....i know thats no comfort....but she'll come back and you wont WANT to sell her...........

WOW, your first post seemed dome and gloom but if having a full respray is the answer and you sound happy? Then it will look the business when its done Ben.

Only thing is you wont want to leave it anywhere you cant see it, especially supermarket carparks.

Oh congrats on the good news with the baby on the way mate, give my best to Helen for me!:chugchug:

Thank you Steve, Helen says hello and sends her best.
Yeah im ok with it, didn't really want to spend that much on it with a baby on the way but there we go.
I will have to pop over when its done, i wont be leaving it anywhere thats for sure!
Im a bit lost at the moment without a car though, im to lazy to walk and don't do public transport so am stuck at home.

That's what I had done when the guy from ICI came down to the Mitsubishi body shop (see seperate thread on this story) - and it turned out my shade of Pyrenees Black was a Honda colour - but it matched!

The fuel filler cap isn't the best way to do it - although convenient for all involved. When ICI did this testing to my car, the guy took an image of the panel and the one next to the wrongly painted area (rear panels wrong, so an image of each panel with an image of each rear door), and then a separate image of the front wing.

See if you can take your car to the analysis people? See who this company's paint supplier is and speak to them direct about taking your car to them.

Time for Meister Blue? Everyone I've spoken to seems to think the colour is lovely..... including me. It took me the best part of 2 years to find one! Have you considered a different colour seeing as it's all going to be done?

No cos then i will have to have the engine out to do it properly and that might cost a bit more!
And the roof is the only bit not being painted as is the original colour.

Nah, red always looks a bit washed out i think.
I'd consider a blue.
