Being around a while. They have a name to protect, I would assume.

Yeah, they've been around for a while. The salespeople seem helpfull enough too.

An importer friend of mine told me that Ted Tracey sell their cars pretty cheap, because they import them in for even cheaper from Japan.

Yeah they seem to be selling their cars for around 2-3 grand cheaper than anywhere else around the place so just wondering whether they are cheaper cos they are sharks or what....... But if nobody has really heard anything bad about them then I guess they are as OK as car dealers can be.

Ted Tracey does not have a good reputation for after sales service and his cars are reputed to be cheap cos they're rough, often after crash repair. A number of people I know have had problems getting satisfaction from him.
Cheap and nasty seems to be the verdict.
I have chkd his stuff out a number of times and he gets a good range and what appears to be some nice cars but normally high kms and I am not sure whether I would trust some of the odo's but that is unsubstantiated. I always find a lot of overspray on his stuff so check body work carefully.

Damn, that sounds dodgy. The things people do to make a buck.

Ted tracey does seem to import higher km cars, and seems to be cheaper but does not budge on price, so a $15,000 on his lot would compare to a $17,000-$18,000 car on another lot. I cant say i've heard anything particularly bad about them except their cars can be pretty rough. And my old flat mate thaught their sales people could have been more helpful.

Anybody buy their cars from Ted Tracey's and would care to comment?

bluefox, if it helps any, a mate of my Dad's runs a yard called Ellis Uttings in Panmure and he always seems to have VR-4's on his lot for a reasonable price. Check them out:

This thread is a little old but thought I would add my 2cents worth.

A couple of guys from my work have bought cars from Ted Tracey's and have had no problems at all. Their prices are generally cheaper than most dealers - one of my work mates tried to do a trade-in which they were offering next to nothing (they could have even said no) - which also explains their prices being low rather than the odd $2500 cash back rubbish.

Both the cars were mint, one had a few minor problems e.g, a light on a switch didn't work - they sorted it no problem.

I would like to change my comments on Ted Tracey, the office girl at work brought a Pug at the start of the year, it had to be returned 6 times in the first 6 weeks, the morol of the story, get an AA check done the 80 will pay for itself in no time flat if there is any potential problems picked up.

for 13g you get a 13g car remember that, alot of Teds cars seem a little rough

Yeah I found the cars there a little rough too... High mileage and stuff like rust in the boot tyre well (mostly surface, but rust is rust).

Also found the dude a bit arrogant. I wanted to take a car for a test drive and he grilled me about my intentions which annoyed me. Then I would have had to wait an hour or so to drive the car, so I went to mitsi and got my Legnum. Don't regret it eithier.

Always get an AA check - you wouldnt buy a house without getting an inspection would you?

Got mine from Royal Cars... $15,995 80k on the clock about a year ago now and a protecta/Royal warranty. Awesome guys well worth checking them out d:)

Got mine from the Hamilton branch (even though I'm in Auckland) But they have an Auckland yard in Panmure I think.

whats up with that white one? I know the one you mean as I went to have a look at it. Went back with my girlfriend two days later and was sold already, I wasn't too worried as I wasn't going to buy it anyway, just wanted to show her it. Then when I joined the club I read a negative post about Royale cars and that legnum but it didn't say why, just to stay away from it or I hope you only paid $15,000 for it or something like that.
So whats the story?

The white one which I refer to had, an exhaust, EBC, Light weight alloys and a heap of guages, it also had adjustables, it had been going up and down between Hamilton and Auckland for a while.

They used to advertise it in the Auto Trader then when I went in they said "oh no sorry that was a mistake it is ment to be $2000 more" This happened twice I also sent my dad in the next week when the ad apeared again. It had all the fruits but didn't feel right.

Had adjustables, exhaust, boost gauge that was about it. Saw the white one alittle while after I bought mine but it just appeared alittle off to me.

Although you do have a warranty ;)

One thing I should say is they didn't service the car before I got it, even though they said they did.

Had to get it serviced.
