Hi

I've trawelled the site, but can't find the oil capacities.

I am specifically looking for the engine oil as I must do an engine oil change tomorrow and don't want to take the whole drum of Mobil 1 (the 400 mile round trip) with me.

It might be helpful to add it to the "All the usefull info" sticky.

Thanks

V

I'd say 4.2 liters, if you think just to change oil, official capacity is larger, tho.

I find that if you are replacing the oil filter and filling it up right to the F line they take around 4.5-4.6 litres

3.9 litres without changing filter.
4.2 litres if the filter is being changed too.

.. taken from the Japanese workshop manual, section 12 "Engine Lubrication".

I've never used a full five litres, bt I have used more than 4.5. Some hit the full line at just over 4, some take more.

If you have nearly 5 litres you'll be fine!

A five litre tub of oil is perfect, as the extra is usually just about right for top-ups between full changes, I find!

It could also depend on which filter you are using as some of those longer ones probably hold more than the 300ml of the genuine Mitsubishi ones, which I think are kind of squat from memory.

Aye. The amount of sludge in there makes a difference, as do any dents in the sump pan. A theoretical value is a damn fine place to start, but I'd suggest putting in 4 litres, with a litre extra so you can keep adding until the oil hits the max line on the dip stick. I'd also suggest priming the filter before fitting - it helps reduce the amount of air getting to the lifters and stops the level reducing so much after you run the car.

And it also depends how fussy you are getting as much out as possible without opening up the engine. I blow mine out several times /yes
