Vince and I decided to go out for a walk this evening. We went out the front door and just as I turned to lock it, I noticed something odd.

"What the HELL is that?"

I got my camera, and this is the view down the street:

We decided then to take the car to have a look and see what we could see, so we drove until we came to the first point that we could start to see something:

We walked up along the road and out of the village:

We went over to the other side of the valley to get a wider view of what was happening

Great pics!

Any ideas what was going on? Apart from the obvious, of course!

At least the hills are not alive with the sound of German artillery!

Nothing yet, but these fires aren't totally unusual on the moors. One happened a year or two ago also, that one was arson.

I've seen the hills in your 'hood' on fire a few times before - not at this time of year though.

Seen a fire jump the M62 at Saddleworth

I hope that 3 foot deep 'puddle' that threw me of me bike has dried up now!!!

Great pics !!

We often get hill fires on the Quantocks near me, but not 'til later in the summer usually set off by tw@ts having picnic bar-b-ques. We did have a spate of fires being started on purpose by the "Burberry capped brigade":smash: often in the middle of the night usually the result of torching stolen cars.

Mike - there's no gorse. It's grassland.
