I've got one here for an FL, it isn't brand new, it is from a 2001 VR-4 with around 100,000km on it.

Tim,

Part # MR316360, is common for both PFL & FL Galants and Legnums, however it doesn't cross reference to any other Mitsubishi that I can see, additionally I'm not aware of any aftermarket alternate pump available in OZ.. :( :(

It's unfortunate that part of the joy of owning an import is the pain of maintenance costs. The Price of this part from MMC Japan was ¥67,700 last time I checked, so when you add freight you get a shooting pain in your hip pocket. :furious3:

Just a couple of points Tim, its an absolute "no no" to hold the car on full lock as this will screw the PS pump (don't do it  )...... if it's squealing on full lock are you sure it isn't the PS belt slipping thats causing the squeal?????

A friend of mine ran into this problem when assembling 100k service parts. What has everyone else been using or are they just paying $1200 for a ps pump. Cant imagine many people would be willing to pay this, i know i wouldnt.

The PS pump doesn't usually die, the belt does need changing at 80-100k though. Belts are a LOT cheaper :D

Yeah i was thinking bout pullin the pump out and just giving it a visual inspection when i take all the belts off $1200 NZD is a bit BS i think personally but i guess they can charge that much if they rare and ppl actually need em (glad i dont) but the belts are cheaper im under the belief that the squeel i get on full lock is just the pressure relief valve.......if someone can confirm this i wont waste my time trying to track down a brand new one

Dont drive full lock, problem solvered lol. I never have and have never had any problem with power steering lol.

Also if you say it squeels when turning full lock chuck the air con on full blast and then see if this makes it worse cos if its the belt that should make a louder noise or make same noise earlier because they use the same belt? I know my honda did this, wouldnt squeel with air con off turning corners but would with it on.
Hope that makes sense, in the middle of writing a report so my brain is all stuffed.

Yes it is many many times worse with the AC on for sure....so must be the belt then?

Would still be good to be able to source cheaper PS Pumps for when they are really need.....surely anything involving 4 digit figures is just letting yourself get shafted

This is interesting, as there is a difference between the PS pump before and after the 1998 facelift. The bracket holding the pump is slightly different, the mounting holes in the pump are slightly relocated and the pipe connections have changed.

Indeed, there is definitely a difference.

Hmmm,, ASA shows for pump assembly fitting all EC5A and the following EC5W - LNGF, LYGF, LYGF1,LYGF2,LYGF3...... is not LYGF1 a PFL, LYGF2 a Super & LYGF3 a FL, designation ?????

Perhaps assumptions are the mother of all fark-ups

ASA produces the following details for a PFL Vin#

so my bad...... there are infact 2 different pumps, and ASA has led me up the garden path again, and I can't trust model designations.....
