Reet my alloys ive got off the silver leggie are shod in dunlop d9000 sportmax 215/45 zr17

Has anyone used these before???

Reason i asked is im using them cos theyve got 8mm of tread on them and are bigger and look better than the standard 16" variety. But worryingly i can get all 3 ayc lights on really easily with these tyres!! Before i had to push on the 16's (yokohamas) and the rear seems very loose now with the 17's.

The tracking does need doing as ive fitted new rack ends yesterday but its more than that, the car just feels really loose.

Maybe they need a good scrubbing in, as they have been stood for a good few weeks and the surface was kinda crappy. Tyre pressures are 32 psi all round is this right??

I have 32psi all round on my car and have done since I've owned it. I did find that when changing to new (but old) tyres, the car needed a few hundred miles for the rubber to soften and lose its slippy outer layer.

When tyres are left in storage they pick up a shiny layer on the outside which will no doubt be slippy. Let that wear out and get to the proper rubber compound and the grip should return to normal. That said, I dont know of anyone that has those tyres so it just might be that they are not that good.

Have you made sure the rotation of the tyres are right? 'Backwards' tyres might cause dodgy handling?

rotation is correct mate, ill give them some time to scrub in. Be interested if anyone has run these tyre tho. Ive had them on a Delta and they were good, wonder if the extra weight of the leggie could cause detriment to the way they work

They are a bit small for the VR4. A few percent under on the diameter. I'm not sure how that would affect the handling, though.

What's the load rating?

My Ray's alloys (currently residing in the garage!) have 215/45/17s on. Never any probs with grip, AYC lights, etc!

EDIT: And before anyone pipes up - yes, they obviously will not be giving me any problems with grip and AYC while they're sat in the garage! /pan

EDIT 2: Correction, they are 215/50/17s!

i got them crappy arrow wards on the rears and Toyo proxys on the fronts and lights lite up for fun so yesterday what Alan had me at it lining up my spokes i chaged em over so the Toyo's would be on the rears well it's wet outside so not expecting miricals but it is still twichy as hell not feeling very confident on bends and excellerating out off corners well lets say keeps the heart pumping....
thinking might be the diff ????

YUP!!! I would never put cheap tyres on a performance car. Had some crap tyres on my Delta Integrale when i bought it it was horrible, swapped to bridgestone Re720's and it became super glue like, swapped to the Dunlops when they wore out and grip was on a par.

545kg per wheel Nick couldnt find a load mark just a max load amount

but 545 x4= 2180 which is plenty more than the car so I should be reet, Took car for blast just and they seem to be scrubbing up nicely, also had tracking done so handlebars are straight aswell.

I agree they should be 50's but when theyre free you dont look a gift horse in the choppers!!

If it continues to feel skittish you could perhaps swap your wheels and tyres with another members and see if it feels any better or not.

545kg is a load rating of 87. Potentially a bit low for a Leggy on low profile tyres.

I never go below 90 when buying and I prefer to have tyres in the region of 94 to feel comfortable. And I've got more sidewall than you too.

For reference, 94 is a load value of 670kg.

I think I remember someone saying that the drivers side front wheel carries a lot more than 1/4 of the weight of the car - I can't remember the words well enough to come up trumps in the search though.

I see what your saying Nick, and its noted for when these wear out!!

Then think how much weight is on each wheel when braking and/or cornering... /yes
